Rick Buenaventura, MD, is an experienced interventional pain management specialist serving Centerville, Ohio, and the surrounding communities at Pain Relief of Dayton.
Dr. Buenaventura completed his medical degree at Tulane University Medical School in New Orleans before finishing his anesthesiology residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. After his residency, Dr. Buenaventura served on active duty in the United States Air Force as a staff anesthesiologist and pain management physician at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Medical Center in Ohio. During his service, Dr. Buenaventura received the Meritorious Service Medal and the Air Force Commendation Medal.
Following his honorable discharge from the military, Dr. Buenaventura completed a one-year pain medicine fellowship at the Ohio State University Medical Center and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. This advanced training provided additional experience in advanced pain management techniques and the treatment of cancer pain. Dr. Buenaventura also received extensive training in implantable spinal technologies, especially spinal cord stimulation (SCS). These advanced studies enabled him to introduce advanced interventional pain therapies to the Dayton area, including prolotherapy, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), and regenerative medicine.
In addition to treating patients, Dr. Buenaventura has published numerous articles in national journals related to the field of pain management. He also actively lectures and trains other physicians on interventional pain management techniques.
Dr. Buenaventura is president of the Ohio Society of Interventional Pain Physicians and involved in advocacy for pain management at local and national levels to help benefit all patients suffering from chronic pain. He’s certified by the American Board of Pain Medicine, the American Board of Medical Acupuncture, American Board of Interventional Pain Physicians, and the American Board of Anesthesiology, where he also has an ABA subspecialty certification in pain medicine. Dr. Buenaventura is a Fellow of Interventional Pain Practice as well.
