Ophthalmologists are medical doctors specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of vision problems and eye diseases. Treatment may consist of glasses, contact lenses, eye drops, medicines, conventional surgery, laser surgery, or some combination of these.
Examination, medical treatments, special eye tests, and minor surgeries and retinal and glaucoma lasers are done in the office. Major eye surgery or surgery requiring general anesthesia are done, usually as an outpatient, at Borgess or Bronson Hospitals or the Surgery Center of Kalamazoo where our doctors are members of the surgical staff.
