It’s heartbreaking to have to address Bob’s health on National Dog Day, but since Monday evening it’s become apparent we have no choice but to talk about it. Bob had a cardiac event on Monday evening and spent yesterday at the Vet. His heart problems have become very advanced, very quickly and, while we are fighting as hard as we can, this is unfortunately a battle we know we will eventually lose. We are doing everything we can to keep Bob as calm as possible and as happy as possible, including having Beauregard go stay with his Aunt for a bit to give Bob a break from his annoying little brother. We also decided to be closed today so that we can focus on what matters and just spend time with Bob. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but hope you will all understand. Thank you for being loyal customers and friends. ❤️🐾❤️
I’m being extra cute Mommy, can I please have more ice pop?! #prettyplease #ipromiseishare #summer
PLEASE NOTE: We will be closed today, Monday, Nov 16th as Bob is sick 🐾 He will be OK, and we will be open again tomorrow.

Friday Bob Update: Yesterday Bob had the Holter Monitor put on at the cardiologist in Albany. He’d had 4 cardiac events earlier in the day before we got to the Vet, but then was perfectly fine in the Vet’s office. Typical Bob. Normally a trip to the vet makes him nervous, but the one time I was hoping he’d be nervous enough to cause an episode while with the cardiologist, he’s calm as can be. 😂 We got his lab results back and there wasn’t anything of major significance, but they did hint that he may be in the very early stages of renal failure. It’s nothing that could be causing the heart arrhythmias, and it’s early enough that he may just need a diet tweak and to monitor the lab values. Other than that, the appointment went well and the monitor was attached without incident. Once we got home though, he had another 4 cardiac episodes over the course of the evening and night. Even though they are extremely scary and upsetting to witness, and I’m sure experience, it was a good thing that he had them while on the monitor. It will mean the cardiologist has a lot of data to go over and hopefully that will make it easier to figure out exactly what’s going on. He’s done a lot better so far today and has been more active and alert. We’re headed back to Albany now and he’s obviously nervous because he’s shaking off and on. 😢 Hopefully after today’s appointment we will have a better idea exactly what’s causing his syncopal episodes and perhaps what can be done to help. #howtofixabrokenheart #hopingforamiracle
Update on Bob: At his cardiologist appointment yesterday, some of his medications were changed while we wait for lab work to come back and for him to be able to do a 24hr heart monitor, called a Holter Monitor. However in the past 12hrs Bob has had 4 syncopal episodes, where his heart stops beating, beats irregularly, or skips enough beats that it causes him to collapse. This is a significant increase from what he had been experiencing and depending on the cause is extremely life threatening. His cardiologist wanted him brought immediately back to Albany for more testing. So we’ve had to close the shop for the rest of today and are racing there now. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
We are very sorry to have to close, but Bob, our whippet, has had a cardiac emergency and we’re rushing him to the cardiologist in Albany. We will be open again tomorrow @ 11am. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Bob’s heart arrhythmia is no longer being completely controlled by his medications. Yesterday we found out that his heart is skipping single beats and if not gotten under control, could start missing multiple beats which is life threatening. Thankfully we have great Vets, one of whom got us a last minute appointment with a top veterinary cardiologist in Albany and we’re headed there now. Bob could use all the positive energy he can get, so if you have a moment send a little hope his way. 🐾🤞🏻🙏🏻🤞🏻🐾 #thinkofhim #whippetsofinstagram #needamiracle #prayersforhealing

This is extremely important for people to know and remember!! Ulster County SPCA February 18 at 7:24 PM · EDIT: Again, the point in this post was to raise awareness of the dangers of dogs on iced waterways, as there are many in our area. Dogs DO get loose - escape a doorway, a fenced yard, etc. Social media can be damning; please share the information provided so this accident can be prevented in the future. The circumstances of how the dogs were on the ice is undetermined, and we ask that folks remain respectful and refrain from condemnation. This family is mourning the loss. In the past two days, the UCSPCA has responded to dogs on ice. Below is a 90 pound dog walking on the middle of the Esopus River. Fortunately, he came back to shore and was returned to his owner. Today though, tragedy struck. Two dogs found themselves on the Rondout when the ice gave way. One of the dogs made it to shore, but the other went under the ice and succumbed to the temperatures quickly. Our deepest condolences go out the their family. The purpose in this post is to emphasize that icy rivers, streams and lakes are significant hazards for wandering dogs. This very quickly can become deadly when a dog, believing that is sturdy footing beneath him, has ice suddenly give way, possibly trapping the dog underneath or making him hypothermic from the icy temperatures. Please do not ever allow your dog to explore iced over waterways, and keep your dogs on leash or contained to fenced areas to ensure their safety in any conditions. And always double check that gates and doors are secure to prevent your dog roaming, especially in winter. #WinterSafety
