Let’s talk about REST! The most powerful passive metabolic activator is proper rest. Without it, your metabolism slows to a crawl, because stress hormones run rampant. Sleep is critical to successful toning and shaping. During sleep cortisol levels balance. Sleep is the time our bodies focus on healing the internal environment, rejuvenating us, and making us whole again. Lousy sleep patterns not only leave you a physical, mental, and emotional wreck, but they undermine and corrupt your ability to foster a healthy metabolism. If you don’t get enough sleep, your metabolism notches down, along with your ability to burn off body fat. So, to keep the body from softening, make sure you regularly get in quality sleep! Amazingly, grapefruits can actually help you lose a little body fat. Though grapefruits do have some natural sugar carbohydrates, this seems to be outweighed by the weight loss benefits. Research suggests that the weight loss effects of grapefruit consumption may be related to a decrease insulin levels. Since high insulin levels promote fat storage, anything that helps keep these levels down is helpful. It’s an interesting phenomenon because grapefruits do contain some carbohydrates, which amazingly appear to be offset by the insulin effect! Greenwich, Connecticut
Did you know that Green Tea has been consumed in China for thousands of years. Though green tea is celebrated for being rich in health-promoting antioxidants, what people don’t know is that green tea also contains a specific type of polyphenol called “epigallocatechin gallac” or “EGCG”. EGCG stimulates your metabolism and activates the central nervous system to help you lose weight. So not only does green tea have antioxidant power to boost immunity, it also promotes fat burning in a calorie-free beverage!

Let’s talk about Posture: Posture is the position of your body, or your body parts in relation to each other. How you carry yourself changes constantly depending on what you’re doing. Good posture maintains body and muscle balance and efficiency regardless of what you’re doing. If you’ve been taking your posture for granted, don’t. Poor posture contributes to fatigue, headaches, backaches and muscle strain. It also just looks bad. People that slouch look much older than they are. When you stand, your lower back should have a slight curve (lordosis), which distributes your weight properly. Your knees should be straight, but not locked, your stomach flat, your ribcage up, your shoulders at ease and your head erect. The old image of a book balanced on your head is still a good guide for proper posture! Greenwich Connecticut

Muscle Soreness. If you’re just starting out and work out too hard, you can get a lot of muscle soreness. This soreness can be so severe that it might even seem temporarily debilitating. So, beginners need to avoid overdoing it or they might quit over the mere thought of being that sore again. As one gains intermediate training experience (usually at least 6 months of consistency), you get more used to it. At the late intermediate stage, those people discover that their larger and better developed muscle groups tend to be the ones that get sore the easiest and to the highest degree. Other muscles less responsive to soreness tend to be the most stubborn in terms of toning and development. Those with advanced experience learn to rachet up intensity and tighten workout quality to control location and degree of soreness for maximum benefit. Greenwich, Connecticut

Benefits of Squats— The single most fundamental resistance exercise. Proper form is critical. Going deep is essential for maximum results. But you must descend slow and controlled. Chest should be out, shoulders back, and lower back slightly concave in lordosis. Sometimes it can help to keep your eyes up. Also, since most people have inflexible ankles, squatting with a little lift under your heels will allow you to go all the way down without leaning forward and using your lower back.
