At Pennsylvania Hospital, Chris Huot, Nurse Manager of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and his team have demonstrated courage and compassion under extremely challenging circumstances. When asked about their journey, Chris said:
"The staff in our critical care units have come together to care for our COVID-19 patients in a way I have never thought possible. The level of teamwork and commitment makes me so proud to be a Penn Medicine nurse. Despite all the challenges of caring for this unprecedented patient population, our team has risen to the challenge and found new and innovative ways to make sure patients are getting the best care possible while maintaining our high quality standards. Our critical care team is truly a model for professional excellence. The inter-professional model of care and relationships that we’ve spent the last year building have served us well in this time of crisis. This pandemic has brought moments of joy and times for tears. I cannot imagine a better team to have gone through this journey with."

#ICYMI: Early detection is key for beating breast cancer. But for patients with dense breasts, a tumor might be harder to find. Penn Medicine is one of a handful of health systems that offer abbreviated MRI as a supplemental screening — and a new study shows that this kind of imaging detects cancers that mammography may miss. https://www.pennmedicine.org/news/news-releases/2020/october/fast-mri-detects-breast-cancers-that-3d-mammograms-may-miss

The Image Recovery Center at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health is like most salons—offering haircuts, highlights, manicures, massages, free head shaves and wig fittings. But for those that have battled breast cancer, it offers something that other salons do not: an essential form of therapy that standard medicine, surgery or even your city’s top-rated salon cannot provide.

Today, Penn Medicine opened its new Interventional Support Center (ISC), the largest instrument processing and surgical supply preparation facility in the country.
Located in Southwest Philadelphia, the ISC is the first facility of its kind in Pennsylvania. In this space, staff will both sterilize and package thousands of instruments each day in preparation for surgeries and procedures.
“By moving our processing operations from the traditional hospital setting to an offsite, dedicated facility, we’re able to increase efficiency in a high-quality, cost-effective way — all while keeping up with increasing demand,” said Chris Pastore, ISC managing director. http://spr.ly/6184Hddck
