Here's a memory from my brother, Rick... He told me this, the day after it happened...
Elvis and few of the guys were out riding motorcycles... Before they got back to Graceland, they stopped for gas... Back, in the day, there use to be a Vickers gas station, just down the street from Graceland, that's where they stopped...
Rick finished filling his tank, and wanted to show off, a little... He said, hey y' all watch this... He revved the engine and dumped the clutch... He was trying to do a burn out, but he ended up doing a wheelie... The bike took off, Rick stayed with it, for a second... Then he fell off... He rolled along on the pavement... The bike kept going, then fell over...
When Rick stood up, he looked over at Elvis, and the other guys... He said, Elvis was laughing so hard, he almost dropped his bike... Rick wasn't hurt, just embarrassed... He hung his head, and walked to his bike... The bike wasn't damaged, so he started the engine and drove up to Elvis, he was still filling his tank...
Elvis looked over at Rick, and asked... Are you okay??? Rick said, yeah, I'm fine... As soon as he said that, Elvis broke out laughing again...
When Rick told me this, I broke out laughing to... Here's a side note... Rick was a bit of a daredevil, like me... But, when Rick tried stunts, they never ended the way he wanted them to go... lol
I really miss them... But, I take comfort in knowing, their in Heaven... And, Rick is probably still trying his stunts... LOL!!!
Have a great one... We love ya!!!

Billy Stanley(HOUND DOG Racing) goes to Buck Baker Racing School !
"Buck asked, so who taught you how to drive like that... I smiled, then said, Elvis taught me... One instructor asked, how do you know Elvis??? I said, I'm his step brother, I grew up with him... Some students said, yeah, right... They didn't believe me... Some even laughed... I stood there, I didn't know what to say......
Then he said, Elvis taught you well, son... You are one of the best I've ever seen...
For me to hear this from a legend in NASCAR was unbelievable... All that day and into the night, I kept saying to myself... Thank you, Elvis!!! We showed them today... I knew he was smiling down at me... I had made him proud... Proud of me..."

Today, I'd like to share something that's been close to my heart, since it happened in 1996... Most of my memories take place when Elvis was alive... Although he left us, in 1977, doesn't mean he isn't with me... He still has his hand on a lot of things I do, like this story will show you...
Many of you have heard me talk about my experience at Buck Baker's Racing School... But, I haven't really gone into a lot of the details of how it came about and what actually happened, there... Here's what happened...
In 1998, for some reason I got the idea of seeing if I could handle a stock car... I'm not talking about the cars you see at your local tracks... I'm talking about the NASCAR or ARCA series... I had done some drag racing, back in the day, but never oval track racing... I did some research and found Buck Baker's Racing School online... I was surprised at how many racing schools there were... I picked Buck's school for one reason... Buck would actually attend the classes... I wanted to hear from the first 2 time NASCAR Champion himself, what he thought of my skills... If I had any at all...
I called the school and asked, what is the toughest track you have your classes at... They said, for speed Daytona was the best... But, the toughest was Rockingham... I said, I'll do Rockingham, then... They tried to warn me, it is tough, not many people like it, they said... I replied, that's exactly what I'm looking for... So, we made the arrangements, and set up a weekend for me to attend their class...
I got there on Friday, they had a short class that night... This is where they told us what they expect from us, and what we should expect from them... The thing they pushed the hardest was, safety... Safety first... They told us, if they saw anyone driving unsafe, or causing trouble with the other students, that they would remove the trouble maker and their money wouldn't be refunded... They asked... Does everyone understand this??? We all said, yes...
The class started early Saturday morning, I was the first one there... I sat in the classroom as the instructors got everything really for the day's event... I watched the other students arrive... There was some small talk amongst them, but they didn't talk to me... As I was watching them a thought ran across my mind... I asked myself... Which one of these guys do you think is better than you??? I laughed at the thought, then answered my question... I said, none of them... Now, before you start thinking, that's pretty cocky Billy... You must know this... Elvis taught me to be self-confident... And, to always believe in yourself... Because, if you don't... No one will believe in you, either...
When everyone had arrived, the class began... They went over the flags and what they mean... Again, they stressed safety... After that, they gave us our helmets and fire suits... When we were dressed, they took us to the track and showed us the cars we'd be driving... As I stood there, I remembered the first time I saw a stock car... It was on the movie set of "Speedway"... I smiled... The instructors told us to get in, on the passenger side of the cars... They were going to show us the driving line around the track, and point out some reference points for us to use for acceleration and slowing down... After 10 laps, we all came onto pit road... Buck was there now... One of the instructors introduced us to Buck... He shook our hands, then said... Okay, let's see what you got... Our instructors showed us which cars we were going to drive, and helped us get in...
When my instructor finished putting on the steering wheel, he asked... Are you ready for this??? I had just finished putting on my 5 point harness, I looked up at him... I didn't say anything... I just shook my head, yes... I watched as all the students ahead of me drove down pit road, onto the track... After everyone had a safe distance between them, my instructor motioned for me to follow everyone... I drove down pit road and made my entrance to the track... We ran 20 laps, at a pretty slow pace... We all watched the flag man for his signals... He would tell someone if they were driving too fast or driving too slow... Then he showed the red flag, that was the signal to come back to pit road... When we stopped, each instructor helped the student they were coaching, out of the car... There was a brief discussion with the instructors and Buck on how we did... Then they pointed out the mistakes the students made... I felt good that they didn't say anything about my driving... Buck said, now we are going to step up the pace... I want you to drive at your comfort level... If you don't want to drive fast, then don't... This isn't a race, so don't act like it is... He also reminded us about driving safely... If you didn't, you were gone...
As I got back into the car, my instructor said, you can step it up now Billy... Just watch the other cars... Again, I didn't say anything... I gave him a thumbs up... I watched as everyone left pit road and onto the track, I was the last one to leave... A few drivers started driving faster, some didn't... After my 3rd lap, I felt comfortable with the car, so I drove faster... I didn't know how fast I was going, because there's no speedometer in those cars... But, I must have been going faster than anyone else, because I lapped the whole field after only 3 laps... I kept my eye on the flag man, but he didn't give me the slow down sign, so I went a little faster... Now, I was having fun... The faster I went, the bigger my smile got... After 25 laps, the flag man gave me the red flag, so drove onto pit road...
As I was driving to the last pit stall, I noticed the instructors and Buck were talking... I sat there for a minute, then my instructor came up to the car and took the steering wheel off, again... As I was getting out of the car, I saw everyone walking toward me... I thought, now you've done it Billy... You're about to get kicked out of the school... But, I kept saying to myself... You didn't get the slow down sign, though... I took my helmet off and prepared for the worst... I also noticed a few students were now following Buck and the instructors... I asked my instructor, did I do something wrong??? He didn't say anything, he just hung his head...
When Buck got to me, he asked... Where are you racing, and who taught you how to drive like that??? I let out a big sigh of relief, but was stunned by the question... I said, I'm not racing anywhere sir... In fact, this is my first time in a stock car... Buck and the instructors looked at each other, then back at me... They all had a puzzled look on their face... Then Buck asked, so who taught you how to drive like that... I smiled, then said, Elvis taught me... One instructor asked, how do you know Elvis??? I said, I'm his step brother, I grew up with him... Some students said, yeah, right... They didn't believe me... Some even laughed... I stood there, I didn't know what to say... I thought to myself, then said... Is there a computer here??? One of the instructors said, yes there is... I said, go type my name in your search window, and tell me what you find... Buck told one of the instructors to do as I asked... He ran to the infield office...
I was still trying to convince everyone I wasn't crazy or trying to fool anyone... A minute later the instructor returned... Buck said, well... The instructor was out of breath, but said... He is who he says he is... The mood sure did change quickly... Everyone wanted to shake my hand, now... One of the instructors said, we have one more class, then we'll spend the rest of the day on the track... So, everyone back to the classroom... As I was walking back to class, Buck said... Why didn't you tell us who you were... I said, sir, I came here to see what I could do, or at least see if I could handle one of these things... If I had told you who I was related to, it may have effected the way you looked at me... I wanted an honest answer, sir... Buck looked at me, then said... You're probably right, Billy... It may have... Then he said, Elvis taught you well, son... You are one of the best I've ever seen... I asked, can I come back for the intermediate class. sir... He stopped walking, so did I... Then he said, no Billy... I want you to come back to the experienced class... You're too good for the intermediate class... I want to put you out on the track with my son, Randy... In that class, we put you into actual race conditions, at speed...
To say, I was excited would be an understatement... For me to hear this from a legend in NASCAR was unbelievable... All that day and into the night, I kept saying to myself... Thank you, Elvis!!! We showed them today... I knew he was smiling down at me... I had made him proud... Proud of me...
Have a great one... We love ya!!!

What a story from Billy Stanley(Elvis' step brother) HOUND DOG Racing !
This was Elvis' '72 Cadillac Fleetwood !
Here's little story I'm proud of... Elvis had several nicknames for me, but the one I'm most proud of was, gearhead... He gave that to me because he saw I had a passion for fast cars and motorcycles...
I remember one time Elvis had to get to the airport in about 20 minutes, for a commercial flight... This was before he started flying private planes and the Lisa Marie... As we were leaving Vernon said, who's going to drive the second car, this was for those that didn't ride with Elvis... Elvis looked at me and said, let Billy do it and gave me a wink...
Elvis and them pulled off while I had to wait on Charlie, for something and time wasn't on our side... When Charlie finally got in the car I proceeded to haul ass, I came flying through the gates and made a ride hand turn on Elvis Presley Blvd, and floored it...
Rick and Charlie were telling me to drive faster... When we came up on Winchester Rd. I had to make a right, I slammed on the brakes and got the limo sideways as we made the turn... Then hit the gas... I had it in a power slide... We could see the car Elvis was in way ahead of us, I knew I had to keep it floored to catch them... Rick and Charlie were still yelling at me to catch them... When we made the turn into the airport, I had caught them...
When we pulled onto the tarmac at the rear on the plane, Elvis got out of the car and walked over to me and said, damn gearhead!!! You had that big sucker flying didn't ya, then he laughed... He gave me a hug and said, I'm proud of ya Billy, I knew you could do it...
As I told this story today, I relived the pride I felt when Elvis said that to me...
Have a great one... We love ya!!!

I thought I'd share a funny story... This will also test the memory of some of you...
First, how many of you remember touring Graceland, in the 80"s and 90's??? There was a gold record, with the glass that covered it was broken... Does anyone remember seeing it???
I'll tell you how it got that way... One day, in 1970, Elvis, Rick, David and myself were sitting in the den with Elvis... Vernon, walks it with a new gold record... We all look at it, and congratulate Elvis on his new gold record... Vernon, leaves.. As we were talking, a thought came to me... I asked... Is that really your record, or is made to look like a record??? Elvis said... Good question, Billy... Let's see... Elvis picks up a large ashtray and is about to break the glass... Rick, David and myself say... WHOA, ELVIS!!! Don't break the glass, it's not really that important... I was just wondering what was on the record, that's all... Elvis said... All these years, and I really don't know what's on any of them... So, I'm going to find out, today... Rick, David and myself say... Okay...
Elvis breaks the glass... He takes it out, then we walk downstairs to the basement to play the record, on the stereo... Elvis is smiling and happy... He puts the needle on the record... Suddenly we hear... SLIM WHITMAN!!! Me, Rick and David bust out laughing... Elvis is standing there with a funny look on his face... Then he starts laughing, also... We take the record off the stereo... Elvis says... (BLANK)!!! I can't believe RCA would give me a gold record with Slim Whitman on it... I wonder what's on the others??? We laughed at that, then told Elvis... Let's not find out...
