Protecting our Patients from Coronavirus Disease Outbreak Making sure our patients and staff are safe is our top priority. While the risk of getting the COVID-19 in the US is currently low, we know many patients are concerned about the spread of Coronavirus. Our Promise to Our Patients: We understand the obvious concern that coronavirus has brought to the area. We want to make you aware of the steps we are taking to protect our patients and team members in this time of uncertainty. At this time Performance Vision Care will be open by appointment only. This applies to eye exams as well as eyewear pick-ups and adjustments. We are trying to limit the amount of people in the office at one time following the “social distancing” recommendations. If you can come alone, we’d appreciate your cooperation All contact lens orders will be shipped at no charge to all patients ordering. If you are running low, please order as soon as possible to avoid running out. If you need a repair, please call our office first and we will advise on if we need to order parts to avoid multiple trips. For routine adjustments, please use common sense on the need currently. All eyeglass patients can request no charge shipping of your glasses at this time. Please call us with any questions or concerns, and if you feel it best for you or your family member to reschedule your appointment, feel free to do so. We do expect this to be an ongoing situation in our area for an extended period of time, and do not want our patients to neglect their eye care needs during this time. We will continue to give recommendations based on the evidence we have on safe delivery of eye care in a time of uncertainty. We request the following of patients: If you have traveled in the last 14 days to a country other than the U.S. where coronavirus has been diagnosed, please call the office to reschedule your appointment at least 14 days from now. If you have any symptoms that mimic that of the coronavirus, which includes a fever or respiratory symptoms, including a cough, please call and reschedule your appointment at least 14 days from now. If you suspect that you have had direct contact with people who have been around any of the people who have tested positive for the coronavirus, please call us to reschedule your visit beyond 14 days from now. Remember to follow basic hygiene guidelines to avoid the spread of germs, which includes washing your hands thoroughly with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds. Our staff will also follow these guidelines and will not be present at work if they exhibit any of the above-mentioned symptoms: Any eye doctor or team member who is sick is staying home We sanitize every piece of equipment after each use and again at the end of the day (as part of our precautions we always adhere to). We will sanitize all patient contact surfaces between every patient with medical grade disinfectant. We have hand sanitizer available for patient use in our office as well as areas they can wash their hands. Our team washes their hands often throughout the day If we don’t shake hands with our patients during this time, please don’t take it personally. How to avoid contact lens overuse & have healthy vision. Enjoy the benefits and comfort of a brand new, clean, crisp pair of contact lenses the very next morning. Contact lens-related infections and eye conditions that result from improper cleaning and storage are a thing of the past. Now, you can enjoy the simple pleasures of crisp, clean, comfortable vision at the start of every day. The 18 Hour/Week Rule - Contact Lenses Your eyes require oxygen just like a person and denying them the opportunity to breathe properly by over wearing your contact lenses can cause severe damage to your eyes. But, how much is too much when it comes to contact lens wear? To answer this question, eye care professionals have come up with a standard benchmark: If you come in anywhere less than 18 hours a week with your contact lenses out, you are over wearing your contact lenses. When denied oxygen in this way, the eye may attempt to supply oxygen through neovascularization. This process involves the growth of new blood vessels into parts of the eye that should remain clear and unblocked for your best vision. This can seriously hinder your ability to see, and do serious long-term damage as well.
