A letter from our Founder, BCE Kyle Lundy.
Today is Earth Day!
I woke up early today. Nothing was wrong, I just couldn’t sleep and wanted to get moving. I drove to the lake and parked by an area where I love to fish from my kayak. The birds were chirping and singing, having conversations over each other. The water was calm and still with some morning mist rising in the sunlight. Here and there the surface would disturb with a fish or turtle sending rings and ripples outward.
I said a prayer and was thankful for my family, for the life I have, and in that moment the beauty of nature. It wasn’t until I was back in my truck that I heard today is Earth Day. I hadn’t thought about it. but what a cool thing to see and do on Earth Day. Driving to work I thought about how my business is a lot like that- let me explain:
I started Pest-Ops in 1995 (we were Pest Solutions in the early days). From the beginning, we integrated non-pesticide elements to our service and searched out every “green product” that existed. We tested each and compared the results with commercial pesticides in the industry. Every green product that performed well became tools in our arsenal replacing synthetic items. I’ve often joked and said, “We were green before it was cool.”
It’s always been in the front of my mind that people in the pest control industry are mixing and spraying pesticides all the time, every day. After we have treated a house, the people living in that space are breathing and living in their home for as long as the product exists. It has always been really important to my family and me to protect people from pests- definitely! But to also protect customers, their children, and pets from pesticides.
So, like going out this morning to enjoy nature before I realized it was Earth Day, we also set out to be green and eco-friendly years before it was a marketing buzzword.
Life has been stressful and patterns have changed in ways none of us expected this Spring. I would encourage you on Earth Day to get out and enjoy nature, and take some time to be thankful, even if it’s in your own yard.
