Their gallery space will be an experience for visitors to learn about the art of aquascaping, to showcase the team's aquascape creations, and to bring together a community of aspiring aquascapers from all over San Diego!

Jungle Aquascapes are minimalistic and an easy to maintain planted tank style that won't discourage you from getting into the aquascape hobby. The plants are easy to care for and don't require high light or fertilizer and without the need for excess trimming, hence the "jungle" appearance as they grow very robust!

Pond Tank #Aquascapes are gaining popularity as many of these plants can be grown in a mix of emergent and submersed. Once the tank is fairly grown in and stable, there is minimal maintenance along with the lack of a need for a filter. This makes it ideal for those who lack the time to dedicate themselves to a much more demanding aquascape tank.
This will be held on in the courtyard area of Barracks 19 directly adjacent to the parking lot of Liberty Public Market in Liberty Station.

Maintenance on your #aquascape is crucial. Not only does it allow the plants to grow better but it balances out the entire ecosystem of the tank and the removal of algae and detritus allow the plants to photosynthesize (aka pearl) effectively.

When it comes to a #BiotopeTank #Aquascape, the purpose of the tank isn’t for the fish to complement the aesthetics (though natural is also appealing to the eyes). A biotope is put together to give the livestock the most possible resemblance to their natural environment and the overall #aquascape design & aesthetics are simply subservient to the overall well-being of the livestock residing within the tank. Orlando created this tank at our @hakkaisd #AquascapeGallery for this main purpose. This small school of #RummynoseTetra are happy dandy inside their new home! The next fish to be added in here will be a pair of Apistos.

Baby Silver Arowana (Osteoglossum bicirrhosum)
These particular ones no longer have the egg yolk sac hanging, making them much hardier!
Baby Silver Arowana fry. Super small and perfect to grow out to their monster size!
This is by far the most popular Arowana species in the fish keeping hobby. The Silver Arowana (some spell it as Arahuana) is indigenous to South America, found in the Amazon River Basin.
These natural carnivores are known to eat practically any creature it can fit into its mouth, including baby monkeys. In the wild, they are known to grow up to nearly 4 feet long. A tightly secured cover is required as the Silver Arowana is known to jump.
All our silver arowanas are very healthy and just full of energy!

Blunt Nose Elephant Nose Fish - Campylomormyrus tamandua
Also known as the Elephant-Nose Double Trunk or Blunt Jaw #Elephantnose. Some call it the Wormjawed #Mormyrid or the Trunkfish. As with other #ElephantnoseFish, it’s fairly difficult to keep more than one together in the same tank. Current size is an inch or so. Can be 13”-15” at full adult size.

Anubias on Driftwood
This is the perfect "instant scape" for your planted tank!
Driftwood is perfect for your tanks for decoration and to bring out the natural settings for many of your tropical fishes. Plecos, cichlid and many other fish love swimming around or even living within the driftwoods!
Even better is having an easy and low-tech plant attached makes this more aesthetically appealing. Anubias is easy to plant onto wood and with this already attached, overtime the plant will grow and "age" well.
Length is anywhere from about 9 inches to 12 inches or so.

The #CongoPuffer is one the few full freshwater #puffers in the fish keeping hobby.

Bucktooth Tetra - Exodon paradoxus
The Bucktooth Tetra is one very active fish. They are known as scale-eating fish and will devour other fish similar to one eating corn on the cob down to the husk.
They do better in a species only tank though there has been success with them being kept with non-reflective scaleless fish such as catfish, loaches, etc. Caution still needs to be taken though.

Freshwater Dolphin Fish - Mormyrus longirostris
Also known as the eastern bottle-nosed mormyrid.
As part of the Mormyridae fish family, these fish are not actual "dolphins" but fish that resemble them, hence the name.
Originating from Africa, this Dolphin Fish can be found in Lake Tanganyika, Lake Malawi and other rivers in the area.
With its body shape and personality, this is a great "oddball fish" for hobbyist!

We started off the first weekend of 2021 with an awesome group of #aquascapers during our Jungle #Aquascape workshop! 2020 has been a tough year for everyone and aquascaping not only helps all of us get through the hard times but allows us to relax and get into zen when we sit back and appreciate the piece of nature we’ve recreated in our aquariums.
Altum Angel - Pterophyllum altum
Wild-Caught from South America (their range in the Amazon River Basin is from Venezuela to Columbia down to Brazil.
This particular strain of Angelfish is highly coveted for their natural beauty and body shape.
They prefer acidic water parameter and will appreciate a tank with plenty of tannins from botanicals such as leaves, driftwood, etc.
The Altum Angelfish is also known as the Orinoco Angel.

We had the honor of #Aquascaping with an amazing group of fellow hobbyists this weekend here at @HakkaiSD during our Classic Nature & Jungle #Aquascape workshops. We’re proud to be able to expand this aquatic art form and grow the hobby. This past year is tough with many of us in isolation and aquascapes help us get through our days with serenity and just pure amazement with the works of Nature right in our own space!
Garra Rufa - "Dr. Fish"
These are the fish you see in fish spas all around the world as they are known to graze on dead skin from one's foot and/or body.
One of the most gorgeous species within the Garra family group. They are relatively friendly. Though they graze all around the aquarium, they are not completely a herbivore and will also feed on bloodworms and other sinking foods.
Also known as the Red Garra, Doctor Fish or Nibble Fish.
Size is around 0.5" - 1".

Baby Silver Arowana (Osteoglossum bicirrhosum)
These particular ones no longer have the egg yolk sac hanging, making them much hardier!
Baby Silver Arowana fry. Super small and perfect to grow out to their monster size!
This is by far the most popular Arowana species in the fish keeping hobby. The Silver Arowana (some spell it as Arahuana) is indigenous to South America, found in the Amazon River Basin. These natural carnivores are known to eat practically any creature it can fit into its mouth, including baby monkeys. In the wild, they are known to grow up to nearly 4 feet long. A tightly secured cover is required as the Silver Arowana is known to jump.
All our silver arowanas are very healthy and just full of energy!
Size is about 2 to 2.5 inches roughly.

This is a freshwater lobster that is very hardy and will accept a number of foods ranging from sinking pellets to veggie matter. Their small size makes them great, even in community fish tanks.

They do well in nano tanks and planted aquariums.

This is a good stepping stone in getting your hands wet into the realm of building an aquascape without breaking the bank. Prices start off at just $34.99 for a curated 'dry scape' designed aquascape that you can take home and start adding plants of your choice prior to flooding it with water.

Flagtail Prochilodus (Semaprochilodus insignis)
Also known as the “Fei Feng.”
Size is about 3 - 3.5 inches or so. Though a fairly peaceful fish, it can hang with the beasts and are often kept in #MonsterFishTanks! Very active and an awesome addition to many larger sized community fish tanks! They are great at grazing and even help keep the aquarium walls clean.
