Black-Eyed Peas & Cabbage- Family Traditions & Resolutions:
It is a Texas tradition (a Southern thing I’d reckon) to prepare and eat black-eyed peas and cabbage New Year’s Day while watching bowl games on TV. So why peas & cabbage?
Cabbage is green like money, so this humble vegetable holds promise for wealth in the New Year. Black-eyed peas (actually beans)- are considered lucky. Perhaps they symbolize good things to come: The promise of germination when planted, and increasing significantly in size when cooked.
