Glasses Make a Comeback as CDC Warns Against Touching Your Eyes
Dear Patients,
In response to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, Vantage EyeCare’s Philadelphia Eye Associates division has instituted new telemedicine and phone consultation services. Telemedicine visits with one of our doctors can be scheduled from your home at a time that is convenient for you. All you need is a cell phone with a camera or a computer with a webcam and microphone.
Here are the steps to schedule a telemedicine visit:
• Call the office to schedule your “visit.”
• If you are using a computer with a webcam and microphone, activate your patient portal by clicking on the link sent to you in an email from our staff. Then create a password and log in.
• If you are using a cell phone, download the PocketPatient app sent to you in the email from our office. This app will work on all Android and iPhone devices. Once again you will be prompted to create a password. Using your cell phone with a wifi connection will improve the quality of the visit and is recommended.
• At the time of your visit, you will receive an email link to start the visit. Our staff will also call you just before your appointment to remind you.
During your visit, the doctor will review your past medical and ocular history, discuss any current eye health concerns, and do an external eye exam. Obviously, a thorough eye examination is not possible remotely, but many common eye problems can be reviewed and addressed in this manner. Eye emergencies may still need to be seen in person in our offices if it is deemed necessary by your provider.
Medicare and most commercial insurance plans are now covering this service.
If you have lost or broken your glasses, we can begin the process of ordering a replacement pair as long as they were made in our lab.
Thank you for continuing to choose Philadelphia Eye Associates as your eyecare provider during the COVID-19 emergency.
If you have questions, feel free to contact our office. We continue to be here for you.
