Phillip Freeman, MD, offers an unparalleled combination of skill and expertise in the field of mental health. A board-certified psychiatrist in private practice now for more than three decades, Dr. Freeman has helped hundreds of men and women from in and around Newton, Massachusetts, improve their lives through psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, and the targeted use of medication.
Dr. Freeman did his undergraduate studies at Princeton University and went on to complete his master’s degree at the University of California, Berkeley, before heading to the University of California, San Francisco to complete his Doctor of Mental Health degree. He earned his Doctor of Medicine in 1984 from the College of Physicians & Surgeons at Columbia University.
He further refined his skills through a residency in psychiatry at Harvard University Medical School McLean Hospital. Dr. Freeman completed his psychoanalytic training at the Boston Psychoanalytic Institute. He now serves there as a training and supervising psychoanalyst.
Dr. Freeman’s love of education extends far beyond his own training. Over the years, he has shared his skills and knowledge, teaching and supervising students and trainees across many aspects of psychiatry in multiple settings, including time as a vice chair for medical student education at the Boston University School of Medicine.
Dr. Freeman also has an impressive list of professional publications and academic presentations. He remains connected to other professionals in the field of psychiatry by taking on various roles in professional associations and organizations.
