I started in the year 2000 after returning from Living in Europe. At that time toxic finishes were by far the most commonly used. A dusty job site was industry standard. Prefinished flooring was relatively new, Laminate flooring was considered a "cheap" alternative and vinyl flooring only came in sheets. Things have changed quickly and I've been on board the whole way! Consumers are more aware of the environmental impact of the flooring industry and the health concerns that come with some sanding and finishing products as well as the materials used in manufacturing. I, personally, don't want to work around toxic chemicals and wouldn't expose my clients to that either, especially now that there are many better options.
