A convo with an 8-year old client of mine yesterday.
Lela: "So I've read in a book that you should give your dog treats for coming back inside after going potty outside. Then, isn't it that you're only giving the dog treats for coming back but not for going potty outside?"
Me: "Yeah but actually you don't want to give your dog treats for going potty. It rather excites them and interrups their business. They could learn to not finish their business"
Lela: a little pause... "That's why people are giving you good reviews. And I know you are doing a great job with Shoko!"
Me: 😶😊
My heart is full when I get a genuine compliment from this little girl and come home with these sweet gifts from her and her mom💕

Shoko is our new Day School student. And she is just FULL of energy and even pees upon greeting people out of excitement and often doesn't know what to do with herself!

Schools are starting. So is Costa's Day School program with Placid Paws!
For about a month, she will be getting daily 1-on-1 time with me. While her family is busy with school, she will become a much calmer and relible dog.
Excited to be working with this little goofball everyday 🐶💕

Stop the bullying! 🚫🤚
These two dogs used to fight so much that they couldn't even stay in the same room for more than a few mintues, and had to walk separately to avoid a fight.
Steve and Helle reached out to me when they recognized that one of the dogs often instigates and starts a fight by bullying the other dog around for a play or a chewy.
If they had let them "work it out" by themselves, they would have only made their relationship worse.
Thanks to their quick action to make an investment in training and the effort they put into the dogs, we are making huge improvements and healing the relationships not only between the dogs but also between the people and the dogs 😊
Recognize the bullying that happens around you. Intervene and advocate for the ones whose voices are not heard ☮
Puppy parents! Read this before you take your pup to places in your car.
Spend some time in your car with your pup. Feed their meals in the car, or hide some treats. Give them a chance to settle down in the car before you start driving or even when you don't plan to go anywhere. Taking your dog to places is not the only way to socialize your dog. The noises and people or dogs walking by are enough stimulation to most dogs. Even though your pup doesn't hate car rides and seem to be "fine", they might not be!
Help them with some good petting or massage while they watch the world go by. Wait them out until they relax. Make the car safe and calm space 💗

Quickest way to stop puppy leash pulling. Teach them pulling doesn't work.
Brace yourself and be like a post as your puppy runs towards the end of the leash.

He'll be visitng the farm and learn to be more confident and relaxed around different challenges for the next few days.
He met our sheep close up for the first time. He was curious but was calm enough to come back to me and to move on 👏 (no, he wasn't running away from the sheep 😅).

Surprise text from one of our clients 😊
Charles always wanted to be able to walk and run with his dogs but the dogs were always too distracted, pulled on the leash and kept tripping him by moving around so much. And he didn't quite have time to train the dogs, so we started with our Day School program which allows me to work with the dogs while Charels was busy at work or taking care of his family.
After a month of intense training, Charles can not only run with the dogs, but also enjoys more time with the dogs being calm in the house.
Dog training enriches the lives of both human and dogs 💕

When a routine bites you in the butt 😫
Do you have rigid daily routines you stick by with your dog because it helps them calm down?
While having a routine may be convenient and may help solve your problems with the dog, in fact, it could be a recipe for failure in the long run.
Just remember how challenging it was with your dog on those days that didn't go as your dog expected due to awful weathers, your time away, or busy times that made impossible to keep up with the routines you've set for the dog.
Dogs need to learn how to be flexible during a change. Dog training is not about rigid rules or exercise plan, but it should be more about teaching them to have a healthy attitude towards life in general.
