From July 1st, 2019 - June 30, 2020, 8,230 total ticks were tested for Lyme disease and here are the statistics for each county in PA. โš ๏ธ The risk of Lyme disease is very high throughout Pennsylvania, especially for our canine companions! 42% of ticks tested from Luzerne county were carrying Borrelia burgdorferi, the bacteria responsible for Lyme disease, at the time of collection. We recommend YEAR ROUND tick prevention for all dogs and offer a Lyme disease vaccine that is over 92% effective in preventing disease transmission. Ask us about which preventatives may be best for your dog at your next visit!

As the holidays approach, you may recall in years past the collection boxes in our lobby for several local rescue groups we work closely with. Although we have been operating curbside much of this year, we would like to extend a virtual "giving tree" invitation to our clients and friends to continue this tradition. Blue Chip, Whiskers World, and Rescue Warriors are all in need of donations. Each organization could benefit from: ๐ŸŽ„beds ๐ŸŽ„blankets ๐ŸŽ„towels ๐ŸŽ„food (especially canned and dry cat and kitten food) ๐ŸŽ„monetary No gift is too small. If you are interested in dropping off a donation, we will gladly pass along to the above rescues.

๐Ÿ’กDID YOU KNOW only 1 in every 3,000 Calico cats is born male?! Meet Tommy!... the MALE Calico cat! He was in to see Dr. Dorman this week for a check up. While male cats are typically defined genetically by XY chromosomes within their cells, male Calico cats have an extra X. Because each of their cells contain XXY, this extra X allows their fur to show an extra color, just like female Calicos.
Forget a dozen roses, a dozen puppies is much more like it! ๐ŸŒน๐Ÿพ These 12 pups were in to see Dr. Damcott this past week. We are thankful for our wonderful technicians who were happy to lend a hand during their first vet visit. Happy Valentine's Day from all of us at PAH!! ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿฉบ

We induced vomiting and recovered all the missing heart-shaped beads. If you ever notice your cat or dog eat and swallow something they shouldn't have, please contact your local veterinary clinic ASAP before inducing vomiting.
