Pop-A-Lock of Baton Rouge opened in 1991 as a "Car Door Unlocking Company" and introduced Pop A Lock's signature Emergency Car Door Unlocking (EDU) service as a free public service to the Baton Rouge Metro Area. By 1998 the company had 10 full time employees and its EDU service had become a critical component of the area's 911 emergency response system, averaging over 20 EDUs per month. By 1998 the company services expanded to roadside assistance services, including tire changes, jump-starts and fuel deliveries. In 1999, in response to requests from customers, the company began offering automotive, residential and commercial locksmith services. By 2004, the company employed 14 car door unlocking technicians and 4 full-time locksmiths.
