It's OCTOBER which means it's also Filipino American History Month! Why October?
Well, did you know that the first Filipinos landed in the U.S. on October 18, 1587? Filipinos (then known as 'Luzones Indios') landed in Morro Bay, CA on the Nuestra Senora de Esperanza--a Spanish ship.
This year, the Filipino American National Historical Society announced the theme The History of Filipino American Activism, highlighting the ways Filipinos have participated in social justice movements like the United Farmworkers Movement, Hawaiian Sugar Plantation strikes, and Anti-Martial Law movements throughout time.

Today kicks off Hispanic Heritage Month! This month, we celebrate the cultures and contributions of Hispanic Americans to our country and society.
Did you know Hispanic Heritage Month began as Hispanic Heritage Week in 1968? Hispanic Heritage MONTH was enacted into law in 1988, beginning Sept. 15th because several Latin American countries gained independence that day, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. On Sept. 16 and Sept. 18, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days, respectively.
Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!
On this day, we honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001. And we're forever thankful for all of the first responders and heroes for their sacrifice and service. All have made an immeasurable impact on our country.
To all those affected today, you're in our hearts.
October is Filipino American History Month, and we're excited to share another story written by one of our Climbers!

Today is an exciting day for the United States! Today, we celebrate the inauguration of our very first woman Vice President, first person of color Vice President, and first woman of color Vice President! Kamala Harris has paved the way for women, especially women of color, to achieve great things. Politics aside, it’s a huge milestone for our country and a day for young people to believe they too can one day change the world, whether it’s running for office, becoming a CEO, doctor, lawyer, or pursuing their dreams!
Here’s to women, people of color, and women of color!
Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day! To honor Dr. King's legacy of service, we are excited to launch our MLK Jr. School Supply Drive! We're partnering with an organization (The Kids In Need Foundation) that gets school supplies at cost and donates them to students and teachers at schools with a population of 60%+ on free or reduced lunch. This year with COVID-19, students in under-served communities are facing big challenges with remote learning/partial remote learning, and they could really use some support! We hope you'll join us and give back! Click the link below to learn more and donate. Together, we can make a difference!

Poland--the land of pierogis and paczki, but also so much more! Today's story starts in an old mining town and takes us through one of our Climber's difficult decision to permanently immigrate to America. We often forget that the move means leaving behind loved ones and missing special moments with them.
What made the move worth the risk? Worth the unknown? Worth the distance?
