It is astonishing how much influence lobbyists have on our rights as citizens. Our constitution guarantees a right to jury trial on civil matters yet our representatives, all well feed by rich and influential lobbyists, now want to include in a health bill a mandate that regardless of what a jury finds, a victim of medical malpractice or pharmaceutical negligence is only going to receive $250,000 in non-economic damages. That my friends includes death of a child, a perant, any loved one; our lawmakers, bought and paid for, seek to declare those loses, that pain, those scars to be capped at $250,000. Louisiana already has a cap of $500,000 on economic and non-economic damages. Washington now wants to cut that in half by hiding it inthe Republican version of Obamacare. Imagine losing a child to medical negligence, then the insult of being told that your loss is legislatively predetermined because lobbyists have bought your Senators.

We must be cautious and not let politicians/lobbyists like Tauzin and his cohorts distract us from the real issues that affect our families, friends and clients.
