ABOUT DR. VENGURLEKAR
Sham Vengurlekar, MD, at Premier Pain Institute brings nearly four decades of pain management expertise to men and women in Phoenix.
At 16, Dr. Vengurlekar started medical school at St. John's Medical College, an internationally recognized, premier medical school in Bangalore, India. Throughout both high school and medical school, Dr. Vengurlekar was at the top of his class, made the Dean’s List, and won several academic honors and prizes. He graduated after completing rotations in surgery, medicine, obstetrics-gynecology, orthopedics, and pediatrics.
After medical school, Dr. Vengurlekar advanced his training even further with a surgical residency. As a board-certified surgeon, he became an instructor in general surgery at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, a referral and major medical and teaching center in Pondicherry, India.
Committed to helping his men and women in pain, Dr. Vengurlekar headed to the United States to undergo training in anesthesiology, pain, critical care, and cardiac anesthesia at Loyola University Medical Center of Chicago. During this time, he completed extensive training and residencies in multiple specialties while also gaining experience as an emergency physician in Illinois and Indiana.
As a pain management specialist, Dr. Vengurlekar believes in providing the highest level of care to each of his patients and stays up-to-date on the latest pain management technologies and procedures. He urges his patients to come to see him sooner rather than later so they can treat the cause of their pain, not just mask it with medications or chiropractic care.
In addition to caring for his patients, Dr. Vengurlekar has been instrumental in educating the medical and paramedical community in Phoenix and its surrounding suburbs through numerous presentations and lectures on pain management.
Dr. Vengurlekar is certified in anesthesiology and pain medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology. He speaks Indian, Spanish, and English.
