Advisor Brian Stumpf came up with an awesome idea while watching the Steelers game. His kids were not as into the game as him and his wife. They set them up with some construction paper to make turkeys for Thanksgiving. He even got in on the crafting action himself. Then a commercial for the KDKA Turkey Fund came on and it sounded like a great way to help people in our community this time of year.
He challenged the PWP team as a fun way to all stay connected and help our community. Each team member that makes their own craft turkey and share a photo with the team. He will donate $10 on their behalf to the KDKA Turkey Fund that partners with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. Those donations will also be matched, so if we all participate, we’ll raise over $500 to help families have enough to eat. Here is the turkey his family made; his daughter loves tape.

PWP's Barb Arend made her traditional Potica or Povitica (Slovenian & Croatian respectively). It is a traditional nut bread. She uses her Grandma Katarina’s recipe. The secret ingredient in the filling is honey, with ground nuts, sugar egg and vanilla. The dough is a sweet roll dough made with milk. Her grandma always rolled it out on a floured tablecloth and used the cloth to roll the bread. She could make such tight coils. Barb also used that same technique, but said she needs much more practice! Pinching the dough closed is also difficult, but she is working on it! The bread gets an egg wash and rises for about 45 minutes before baking for 50 minutes. What are some of your favorite old family recipes?
