WOMEN IN MEDICINE MONTH: In 1990, Antonia Novello, MD, was the first woman and first Hispanic to become Surgeon General of the United States. During her tenure as Surgeon General, she spoke out on underage drinking, smoking, and AIDS. For work during the Gulf War, General Colin Powell awarded her the Legion of Merit. For Women in Medicine Month, we celebrate Dr. Novello’s commitments to public service and health education. #wimmonth
Prime Healthcare is asking our communities to remember the 3Ws as we continue to flatten the curve and slow the spread of COVID-19. WEAR a mask. WATCH your distance. WASH your hands. The 3Ws can significantly reduce your risk of getting COVID-19 and help keep loved ones safe. #inprimehealth

FRIDAY FITNESS TIP: Do you warm up before exercising? Warming up helps your muscles prepare for more intense physical activity. Warming up your muscles helps them absorb more oxygen and increases blood flow, which helps lessen your risk of injury. Common warm up exercises include: jumping jacks, jumping rope, walking/slow jog, ankle circles, and torso twists. Take five-10 minutes to warm up before your workouts to enhance the health benefits. #inprimehealth

Ken and Leslie from Prime Healthcare encourage you to get your flu shot! It’s even more important to be vaccinated this year to help prevent flu and protect loved ones during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to getting your flu shot, continue to practice the 3Ws: WEAR your mask, WASH your hands, and WATCH your distance. #getyourflushot #inprimehealth
With so much going on in our lives and in the world, we sometimes forget to take time to relax and find calm. Even if your busy schedule allows only 10 minutes to relax, just those 10 minutes can help with reducing stress levels, blood pressure and muscle strain. Try going for a walk, doing a short yoga routine, writing in a journal, practicing deep breathing, or listening to some favorite music. See if you can go 10 minutes with your phone/email notifications turned off! Take time to find what helps calm and relax you and commit to giving yourself time during the day to enjoy it. #inprimehealth #internationalstressawarenessday
