This week was all about fire safety!πOur students spent time reviewing a family fire safety checklist with Ms. Erika (Director of Education). We enjoyed a variety of fire safety inspired art and writing projects, including thank you notes and posters for Lewisville Fire Station #3. We want to extend a HUGE thank you to our extremely generous families who donated 672 bottles of water and sports drinks for Lewisville Fire Station #3. At Primrose Old Orchard our students always love a good parade, even if it's in digital form. Our students shined more than ever today when celebrating each others cultures to wrap up our month long cultural event. Today our students and staff dressed in cultural attire to highlight our diverse preschool community. We will finish out our day with today's cultural cookie Friday treat, a delicious fortune cookie!
As part of our Celebrating Cultures unit of learning, our students explored money from around the world. Ms. Keisha (Campus Director) presented a variety of paper money and coins from places like Kuwait, Nicaragua, and Mexico! Our students loved examining details of the money with magnifying glasses. As part of our cultural journey through Asia, our students enjoyed the opportunity to try out chopsticks! We served a delicious lunch of orange chicken, stir fried veggies, rice, and mandarin oranges.π₯’π΅π
Today Ms. Keisha (Campus Director) took our students on an adventure exploring all things PUMPKIN!π First we enjoyed the story "The Biggest Pumpkin Ever" which taught us all about cooperation. Our Primrose friend, Katie the Cat, has been teaching us about cooperation during October too! Ms. Keisha and Katie joined in on the fun of opening and exploring the inside of a real pumpkin. Our Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten students practiced their numeracy skills by counting the seeds.
It's National Fossil Day and who doesn't love taking a journey back to prehistoric times! Today our students used their creative art skills to make their own dinosaur art and skeletons. They used their fine motor skills to mold clay and playdoh into dinosaur bones. Ms. Erika, our Director of Education, read the story "Bones, Bones Dinosaur Bones" and most importantly, they learned to say "I love you" in dinosaur. We "Rawr!" our Primrose families.
Primrose School of Old Orchard and Primrose School of NE Flower Mound joined forces to collect nearly 1400 food items for CCA Distribution Center in Lewisville, TX. As part of Primrose's Character Development Program, we strive to teach students to give without expecting something in return. The generosity exhibited by our families at both school campuses is proof that our students are learning this important life lesson at school and at home.

Primrose School of Old Orchard's Election Day was a star spangled success! Ms. Erika, our Director of Education read a variety of books about election day and voting to our students. Our venture program made election day hats in support of the candidate of their choosing, and the students in our wonder program decorated American flag stars. Each student then cast their votes with conviction. We were proud to create this election day experience for our students with hope that they understand that respectfully voicing their opinions can yield real life results. That being said, the new President elect of Primrose School of Old Orchard is...Mia the Mouse!π
We have enjoyed a wonderful week of events leading up to Halloween! We kicked things off last Friday with our costume day and Trick-Or-Treat Drive-Thru. Thank you to all of our families and staff who made this event so special. The fun continued this week as we were visited by the Pumpkin Fairy! She shared a story with each of our classes and shared some of her magical pumpkin seeds with us. Our students sprinkled the seeds and a "wet weather friendly" pumpkin patch grew! Each student harvested a pumpkin of their very own. We hope you enjoyed the photos, and wish everyone a safe and happy Halloween!!

In honor of Black History Month, our students are spending time learning about a variety of influential African-Americans. Yesterday we celebrated Rosa Parks' birthday by sharing the book "I Am Rosa Parks" with our Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten students. After the story, they enjoyed doing a bus craft during Art Center. During snack, we honored Garrett Morgan, the inventor of the traffic light. Our students created traffic lights out of graham crackers, sun butter, and fresh fruit. Thank you Rosa Parks and Garrett Morgan for your important contributions.
Our Early Preschool students have really enjoyed learning about healthy foods this week. Today we took the foody fun to a "feel and find!" discovery box. Can you guess what healthy food is going to come out of the box just by feeling it?? Our Pre-Kindergarten students were doing a variety of activities during their morning center rotations. Students at Art Center created Valentine cards, while our friends in Dramatic Play Center enjoyed a camp-out complete with hand-crafted S'mores! Students who visited the Research and Technology Center looked at different constellations and then practiced writing by drawing constellations of their very own. Active Minds, Healthy Bodies, Happy Hearts.β€

Ms. Erika (Director of Education) taught our students where in the world different types of penguins live, what the different penguin species are called, and how big they are. Ms. Erika read the book "The Emperor's Egg" which tells the story of how Daddy penguins protect the baby penguin egg until it hatches. Our students tried holding an egg (shakerπ) on top of their feet just like Daddy penguins do to keep the egg warm and safe.π§
Our staff enjoyed a wonderful In-Service Day yesterday! We learned the principals of Conscious Discipline, implemented some of the teachings in our classrooms (The Kindness Tree!π³), and enjoyed team building activities based around the principals of our school culture: Integrity, Compassion, and Excellence.
