Dr. Denise Shapiro was the first practicing female periodontist and is currently one of only five board-certified periodontists in Rhode Island. She built and maintains a beautiful state-of-the-art periodontal office on the East Side of Providence. She has been practicing periodontal therapy (gum treatment) since 1987 and has created a reputation as an outstanding clinician. Dr. Shapiro enjoys her relationship with her referring dentists in Rhode Island and Massachusetts and has established excellent communication with them. That, as well as her attention to detail and follow-through with the patients allows her to give individualized and special treatment for her patients. Dr Shapiro has performed volunteer dentistry on orphan children in Bolivia and Cambodia, and participates with the Donated Dental Services program. She is best known for her esthetic procedures including gum recontouring and connective tissue grafting.
Denise Shapiro is a graduate of Emory University and Columbia School of Dental and Oral Surgery. Her post graduate training was done at Boston University School of Graduate Dentistry. Dr. Shapiro became Board Certified in 1993 as a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. She has served on the American Dental Association Council on Insurance as well as the Committee on the New Dentist. Dr. Shapiro is a member of the Pierre Fauchard Dental Honors Society. In 1996 she was inducted into the International College of Dentists.
