Press Release Sometimes necessity becomes the “mother of invention.” At least that’s the case at Quality Inn on Horizon Drive. For several days prior to the State of Colorado shutting down restaurant dining service, restaurants and hotels were dealing daily with newly formulated rules to prevent the spread of the COVID 19 virus. Monday, those new rules and best practices were thrown out with a much more stringent policy: take out service or delivery service only. That new wrinkle created a huge problem for hotels that offer buffet breakfasts for their guests, not to mention the hardship on restaurants. Being inventive employees, General Manager Rick Martindale and his staff rose to the challenge by offering room service to guests. To be sure, the kitchen staff had been wrapping pastries and other foods individually and planned to offer staff served breakfast items behind the approved ‘sneeze guard’. With the change, Martindale decided to offer better service rather than cut back. Room service was reinstituted. “Our guests have become accustomed to a certain level of service,” he points out. “We couldn’t let them down.” Here is how he plans to protect his guests and provide extra service: Guests can call the Front Desk and place their orders. The kitchen staff will cook the food to order and assemble the order on the Room Service Cart or tray. Another employee will deliver the cart or tray to the room and knock on the door. The delivery person will step away from the door and let the guest retrieve the food. Martindale says his repeat guests who have to travel for their work rely on his staff for support beyond typical lodging. “We’re going to do our best to make their travel as pleasant as it can be under the circumstances.
