Now that traffic noise is lessened, it might be a good time to stroll over to the McDowell cemetery, seen in fleeting glances while navigating one of the busiest intersections in the city. In recent years local Boy Scouts have done much to restore and revitalize our town, from freshly painted fire hydrants, to the 17th St welcome sign, to this example of the fine work they are doing in preserving our earliest cemeteries. What could set the imagination running wilder then to stand amidst the graves of ancestors who witnessed first hand the Revolutionary War, the founding of a nation and those earliest days of white settlement in our broad valley in the century before the founding of Altoona.
