Raphael R. Roybal, M.D., gained extensive experience in all aspects of surgery of the spine, including both minimally invasive and motion sparing techniques, at the Texas Back Institute. Additionally, he participated in numerous clinical trials studying novel motion sparing spinal devices, as well as co-authored a chapter in a major text discussing the future and implications of Total Disc Replacement. Dr. Roybal has a keen interest in minimally invasive spinal surgery and, accordingly, utilizes the most up-to-date and tissue-sparing procedures when surgery is indicated.
Dr. Roybal has been a key contributor to the development of Savannah’s own Center of Excellence for Spinal Surgery at Memorial Health University, which is recognized by the Joint Commission, and as the center’s physician champion, Dr. Roybal is dedicated to maximizing patient outcomes through the collection and analysis of patient data. With his extensive surgical experience, Dr. Roybal participates as a surgical proctor to educate other practicing spine surgeons and spine-surgeons-in-training about various minimally invasive techniques. He has also submitted numerous articles studying the benefit of minimally invasive spine surgery.
