We are seeing an uptick in catalytic converter thefts in our area. Catalytic converters are part of your vehicle's exhaust system and contains precious metals. The exhaust coming from the engine of your vehicle enters the converter and re-ignites, thus reducing the harmful gasses that are emitted from the exhaust system. These thieves are targeting the catalytic converters because the precious metals they contain are very valuable as scrap. You will know if your converter was stolen as your vehicle will be very loud the next time you start it. Catalytic Converters are very expensive to replace and your vehicle must have them to operate properly.
If you have a garage, park your vehicle inside. Keep an eye on your neighbors property and report any suspicious activity to the police.
