Christmas Memories is the theme of the 35th annual Bradley Lighted Christmas Parade but it won’t be in the traditional way this year. Due to increased Covid positivity, we have converted the traditional event to a drive-thru parade. Parade participants will line up on the north side of Broadway while spectators drive past on the south side of the street with the turning lane as a buffer zone. It is our hope that these changes will create a safer environment for all spectators, participants and parade volunteers. You can still enjoy the festive lights, holiday music and waving to Santa from the comfort and safety of your own vehicle. The parade is on Friday, Dec. 4. Parading will be 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Spectators will enter Broadway from South Washington.

Cindy Lou has been our longest resident. She was pulled from another shelter- VERY pregnant- and scheduled to be euthanized.
She’d never been in a living room. Never sat on a couch. Never laid at the feet of her own family.
TODAY WAS THE DANG DAY.
Cindy Lou (Who) went on a home visit last week, ironically December first. Her first days were a bit stressful, given such a drastic change in routine. She went from kennel to house, kuranda bed to couch, our shelter staff was her only family last week, and now, she has her very own mom, dad, and brother.
Lou has learned that her little human is her most favorite, because he drops things here and there, and those are the best snackies.

My perfect home would be one that is decently active, because I do like to adventure sometimes, but also naps are extremely important 😉 My kchf friends think I would get along well with another dog based on my very best behavior at the shelter 😁 (and also the fact that my previous owner said I’ve lived with another dog but shhhh, focus on my very best behavior!)

We have a desperate need for foster help! We are involved in the complete removal of over 200 dogs from a known puppy mill. At this time I only have limited information. We have aggreed to help as many as possible. We would be able to help more with foster commitment. Most will be cattle dogs, we will take a senior dog, a pregnant dog, and a nursing mom and puppies and add from there. The dogs will be here late Sat and will need pickup Sunday.

During the transitional phase into a raw food diet, the first 7 – 14 days, your pet may experience some digestive upset including gas, loose stools, mucous in stool, and may even vomit bile (yellow or white phlegm). Not all pets experience this and most that do is often temporary.
Here are some tips to help make a smooth transition:
💡 Start with chicken or turkey diets as they are easy to digest proteins
💡 Serve the food warmed to enhance food aromas
💡 Offer ½ the serving, then wait 10 – 20 min before offering remaining portion to prevent eating too quickly and regurgitating the food
💡 Add a probiotic such as Raw Goats Milk to help with digestion
💡 Take it slow. Successfully transitioning to a raw food diet can take up to 3 weeks.

We always hear how dogs have a shorter digestive tract, and here's a great visual with a quick explanation!
🌱Herbivores eat plant material. Plant cells are difficult to digest, so herbivores like cows have 3 extra parts to their digestive system.
🍖 Carnivores eat meat. Meat and fat are easily digestible nutrients, so carnivores like dogs do not need the extended digestive system.
🤔 Knowing this, it's easy to see why a pet food based on grains and other plant material is not ideal for dogs or cats!

Puppies and kittens imprint on the inherent flavor cues found in mother’s milk and pre-weaning solids delivered by their mother, they learn these flavors are “safe.”
Imprinting may be one-way puppies and kittens learn what is to be hunted in addition to what is safe and nutritious (Thorne, 1995).
Aversion to new and unfamiliar foods and flavors occurs most commonly when animals receive a single food from an early age. “Novelty” is the behavior of enjoying new foods and flavors.
In studies, dogs preferred novel foods and flavor changes when exposed to food rotation from weaning to two years of age (Corbin, 1995; Thorne, 1995).
