Happy Birthday to our Eagle River based SLP, Robin!
Have a wonderful day!!! 🥰
Wooooot it’s Allie L.’s birthday today!!!! 🥳
Let’s give her a huge Welcome to our RWA family!!!
Allie is a Speech-Language Pathologist in her Clinical Fellowship Year. She was born and raised in south Louisiana, but her love of the mountains and outdoors sent her to Alaska. She attended Louisiana State University, where she obtained both her BA and MA degrees in Communication Sciences and Disorders. Allie has worked with all ages with diagnoses ranging from articulation to language to cognitive-communication disorders. She has since found a passion for working with language skills such as reading and writing. She enjoys working with families and collaborating to form therapy goals and treatment plans. Allie lives in Anchorage where she enjoys hiking, camping, and off-road riding with her boyfriend and their dogs, Katmai and Seven. She also loves to bake and cook, particularly Cajun cuisine when she is feeling homesick!
Allie is licensed by the State of Alaska Department of Commerce, Division of Business and Professional Licensing.
Something to think about!
Did you know: Handwriting is not a forte for many of our students!! While dyslexia is a diagnosis for language based reading and writing difficulties, dysgraphia is often co-morbid and presents itself with sloppy or unformed writing.
How could an OT help?...💡✍🏼

A DECADE, ten phenomenal, trying, exhausting and exhilarating years. In the fall of 2010, Heather Carter Walton sought to provide and improve literacy throughout Alaska. Supported by her husband, family and friends; Reading Write Alaska was born.
Once a school based speech language pathologist, Heather observed the need for language and literacy support to many students that unfortunately could not benefit from her services in the public school system. She began tutoring out of her garage, and her skill and passion proved to be her driving force.
It flourished... A small office suite in South Anchorage was rented to support her growing clientele... a second office in Eagle River opened... then an expansion to a larger office in Anchorage... the opening of a large branch in Wasilla to service to valley... envisioning and building a state of the art two story office building in Anchorage... and expanding services Alaska wide through teletherapy (which also came in handy during this crazy year).
Throughout the years Reading Write Alaska has had many clinicians and educators that have helped to share the dream and provide literacy and language services (as well as academic support, speech therapy, and now occupational therapy). Reading Write Alaska has encouraged so many students, given new life to families and changed the livelihood of so many clients. We've seen high school graduates become college degree holders, skilled tradesman, entrepreneurs and truly live their Alaskan dream.
Thank you for being with us these past TEN YEARS, and for always supporting the vision to better our Alaskan communities.
Thank you Heather, Justin, and all who have put in the hard work and effort to make Reading Write Alaska what it is today. We cannot wait to see where the next ten years will bring us.
Have a wonderful weekend!
We love to see our families having a great time! How are you spending your time?!

Literacy is more than reading! It is an intricate process involving reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.
Each of these skills is interwoven, creating avenues for the child to be able to absorb information, learn, and communicate.
In cooperation with other providers, Occupational Therapy assists children in developing these abilities with the task of handwriting as the targeted skill.

Such an important point to note. Using technology doesn’t give a free pass, and it doesn’t inhibit learning.
