Looks like the FDA Is starting to wake up to what the rest of the world already knows - finally a published article about how toxic the silver fillings are in your mouth and the dangers they can cause to your health. Hope the American Dental Association will realize this and start supporting HEALTH! https://www.fda.gov/news-events/press-announcements/fda-issues-recommendations-certain-high-risk-groups-regarding-mercury-containing-dental-amalgam?fbclid=IwAR1dPl_-tQ2cxU9AG7RYobepLY1h1sHllHLbpsqefmTbOZ-FZcBZqeeEmyU FDA.GOV FDA Issues Recommendations for Certain High-Risk Groups Regarding Mercury-Containing Dental Amalgam
I was one of those who believed that an orthodontic pacifier had extra research around it, and that it was therefore better than other pacifiers. Now that I am into the whole concept of airway centered dentistry, I totally understand that pacifiers are a bad thing in general, but especially for children over 24 months of age. That being said, I also understand that children will find their thumbs, and that it's much harder to break a thumb habit than it is to break a pacifier habit. THAT being said, it's BEST if orofacial myology and myofunctional issues are addressed early, with the appropriate therapies, so that we aren't having to UNDO the damage later on. Food for thought indeed... CLASSACTION.ORG Class Action: NUK ‘Orthodontic’ Pacifiers Harm Oral Development in Children Older Than 24 Months
I thought some of you with kids in school may be interested to see this: The American Academy of Pediatrics, the nation’s leading advocacy organization for children, representing 67 ,000 pediatricians, has finally weighed in on the subject of schools, releasing a “Critical Update on COVID-19.” The group’s message to policy makers is clear: Reopen the schools. “The AAP strongly advocates that all policy considerations for the coming school year should start with a goal of having students physically present in school.” The organization, which publishes one of the most influential and widely-cited journals in all of science and medicine, says that the evidence shows that school shutdowns have been harmful to children. “There is already evidence of the negative impacts on children because of school closures in the spring of 2020.” “Lengthy time away from school and associated interruption of supportive services often results in social isolation, making it difficult for schools to identify and address important learning deficits as well as child and adolescent physical or sexual abuse, substance use, depression, and suicidal ideation. This, in turn, places children and adolescents at considerable risk of morbidity and, in some cases, mortality.” AAP also weighs in on the debate over whether schools and children are a major threat to the spread of COVID-19. “SARS-CoV-2 appears to behave differently in children and adolescents than other common respiratory viruses, such as influenza, on which much of the current guidance regarding school closures is based. Although children and adolescents play a major role in amplifying influenza outbreaks, to date, this does not appear to be the case with SARS-CoV-2.” “The preponderance of evidence indicates that children and adolescents are less likely to be symptomatic and less likely to have severe disease resulting from SARS-CoV-2 infection.” “In addition, children may be less likely to become infected and to spread infection.” The group also says that measures like the use of face coverings may not be “developmentally feasible” in the case of younger students if it “cannot be done safely (eg, the face covering makes wearers touch their face more than they otherwise would).” They recommend that “Schools may choose to not require their use when physical distancing measures can be effectively implemented.” But even if schools cannot maintain strict adherence to a 6-feet spacing rule, AAP recommends considering allowing closer distancing “if remote learning is the only alternative.” The overall message that the pediatricians are attempting to convey is one that seems to have been lost on politicians and policy makers during the COVID pandemic: the consequences of actions like school shutdowns must be considered in their entirety, not just with regards to preventing COVID transmission, in order to determine their benefit or harm. “Policies to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 within schools must be balanced with the known harms to children, adolescents, families, and the community by keeping children at home.” “Finally, policy makers should acknowledge that COVID-19 policies are intended to mitigate, not eliminate, risk.” SOURCES: https://services.aap.org/en/pages/2019-novel-coronavirus-covid-19-infections/clinical-guidance/covid-19-planning-considerations-return-to-in-person-education-in-schools/ https://www.aappublications.org/content/pediatrics-overview AAPPUBLICATIONS.ORG Pediatrics Overview | American Academy of Pediatrics
