World’s Biggest Boot
–
The supersized 877 was unveiled to the world in 2006. Officially named the world’s largest boot by Guinness Book of World Records, it was pulled by tractor in a parade from the factory to its permanent location at our flagship store in downtown Red Wing, MN.
Thousands of people take photos in front of this boot every year — tag us in yours. #worldslargestboot
World’s Biggest Boot
–
Using materials and components identical to the 877s worn on jobsites everywhere, our record-setting size 638½ boot took 80 leather hides, 245 cubic feet of urethane, 1,200 feet of nylon rope, and 80 lbs. of brass to make. The bootlace is 2¼ inches in diameter and 104 feet long.
The boot is 16 feet tall, 20 feet long and weighs 2,300 lbs. A person would have to be 120 feet tall to be the right fit.
World's Biggest Boot
–
In 2005, we set out to build the world’s biggest boot for our 100-year anniversary. More than 60 people volunteered 4,000 hours of their time fabricating our signature 877 in size 638½ — a world record. The boot was made with exactly the same leather, components and processes as the regular sizes. It was built on a supersized last made of interlocking plywood ribs.

Careers in Welding
–
Lou welded every chance she got growing up, so she made it her career. This past June, she finished her first year as an apprentice for Ironworkers Local 512 in St. Paul, MN.
Very recently, she got an opportunity to move to California — and luckily she was able to transfer her apprenticeship to Local 433 out of L.A., where she just started her second year.
Lou says moving halfway across the country was both exciting and terrifying. But knowing she had union work lined up made the transition a lot easier.

Red Wing Through the Ages
In the early days of the Red Wing Shoe Company, traveling sales teams would hit the road and sell our products across the country.
In the first photo from 1922, sales rep Harry P. Williams sits in his 1914 Ford Model-T, which he drove over 150,000 miles during his 34-year career. The second photo shows sales rep Knute Johnson with what may have been the first mobile shoe store. In the 1940s, he pulled a trailer around with display shelves for his footwear.

In for the Long Haul–
A small team works hard every day making West Coast Haulers of Murrieta, CA, into a well-known auto transportation company. Founder Scott Thompson says right now it’s all about finding a way to stand out.
The team sees it's brand-new, top-of-the-line car carrier truck as proof they’re on the right track—a symbol of all the sacrifices and extra hours everyone has put in.
