With Santa Clara County's Stay At Home Mandate in effect until January 4th, 2021 we would like to let our patients know that our dermatology and facial plastic services are not affected by this. We are still taking appointments for these services.
RefinedMD is taking every precaution to ensure the safety and comfort of our staff and patients in our office.
This is a 55-year-old woman who came in to discuss management of loose skin in her lower face and neck that she felt was aging her disproportionately compared to the rest of her face. She stated she was embarrassed by the way she looked in pictures and selfies to the point she would avoid them altogether. When considering her surgeon, she wanted to make sure that results would be noticeable but natural and conservative of her overall appearance.
These are her results 3 weeks after our limited-incision lower facelift in the office. Not only are these outcomes stunning, but to be able to look like this at such an early stage in the recovery process is truly astonishing and gratifying not only for the patient but to us as well!

Can I Really Get Sun Damage in Winter?
Absolutely. Even if we weren’t in perpetually sunny California, sun damage can and does occur year-round. The idea that sun damage only occurs on sizzling summer days is a myth we often have to dispel at RefinedMD. Sure, you might not burn as easily on a cloud-covered day but that doesn’t mean the sun isn’t doing its usual damage. Clouds do very little to protect you from UV rays because these rays easily penetrate them. The same goes for rain or snow. The only ways to protect yourself from UV damage (no matter what time of the year it is) is to either 1) stay indoors and away from windows or 2) cover up and wear sunscreen.

Deciding Between IPL and BBL
Intense pulsed light (IPL) and broadband light (BBL) treatments both use light-based energy to address a number of skin conditions. BBL is the latest iteration of IPL, but at RefinedMD we continue to offer both because some clients are simply better suited to one or the other—or, in many cases, using a combination of IPL and BBL may be the best approach for you. It all depends on your skin, skin issues, and your goals. Much of the time, BBL unsurprisingly performs better than IPL—after all, it’s the gold standard and is built off of IPL.
