Partnering with Republic Services for their National Neighborhood Promise Day, we were able to complete projects at 12 worksites in Southfield over two days. Residential Driver Ruben R. was on route when he noticed a woman running out of her home panicked. When Ruben parked his truck to find out if he could assist, the woman informed him that she couldn’t find her child. He quickly began to assist her in searching for the child. After several minutes, they were able to locate the child – who was hiding under the mother’s vehicle. Thank you, Ruben, for springing into action to help this family in a scary situation!
Earlier this year, Heavy Equipment Operators Scott E. and Gary C. noticed something unusual while inspecting the Countywide Landfill in East Sparta, Ohio. A Red-Tailed Hawk was tangled in the 25-foot high fencing around the facility. After some phone coaching from the local Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, Scott, Gary and Heavy Equipment Technician Dominic A. delicately cut the bird from the fence in 7 minutes time and placed the stunned and exhausted hawk into a box. “Hawkeye” was delivered to the Stark Parks Wildlife Conservation Center at Sippo Lake with hopes to release him back at Countywide in the future. After two months of rehab, Hawkeye was ready to be released. Operations Manager Tim V. and his wife Diane and boys Tyler and Joe picked up Hawkeye and transported him back to the landfill for the big day. “The box was opened in the beautiful sunlit morning. Hawkeye poked his head out of the box and looked around for about five minutes. He then leaped out of the box and into the air taking flight. Here’s hoping Hawkeye lives a long and tangle-free life.” – Tim V.
If the item is too small to go through the sorting equipment, it can get jammed in the machinery and shut down operations for extensive periods of time. So be sure to put things that are smaller than a credit card – like coffee pods and loose lids – in the trash. Learn more: https://bit.ly/3subNZt
Tyngsboro Driver Sam C. made a boy on his route very happy. Owen is passionate about our fleet and the services we provide. Every Friday, he eagerly waits for Sam to make his rounds through his neighborhood in Chelmsford, MA, and goes to the driveway to wave and prompt Sam to beep his horn. Sam recently surprised Owen with a Republic Services die-cast front-loader truck and a star cap – an absolute thrill for Owen! Owen now waits for Sam still holding his truck and sporting his cap.
