In West Virginia, Republic Driver Ian L. gave two young fans on his route a day to remember. Isaac, 4, and Evan, 12, love our big blue truck and they never miss an opportunity to come out and watch Ian whenever he arrives on their street. Ian and his colleagues surprised the boys with a custom Republic uniform, complete with gloves, hat and sunglasses.

Behind the wheel of a 25-ton truck, Republic drivers routinely face obstacles and one of their biggest challenges is avoiding distracted drivers. To avoid potential incidents, we piloted a safety program using beacons on our trucks to notify other drivers using the Waze traffic app that a slow-moving Republic vehicle was nearby. Over 130,000 notifications alerted drivers of a Republic truck location during last year's test run, which allowed those drivers to reroute and avoid our trucks entirely. Driver Justin J. has been described as an angel and a hero by a resident in Wilmington, Delaware who he saved from a house fire.
On his route, Justin noticed a house on fire. The homeowner was in her back sunroom and had no idea. Justin slammed on his horn and didn’t let up until the homeowner ran to the front door. Realizing her garage was engulfed in flames, she quickly ran back into the house to grab her dog, and they both made it out safely. Justin called 911 and used his fire extinguisher to settle down the flames until firefighters rushed to the scene. More than that, he stayed with the homeowner to provide comfort until a friend arrived. “I want you to know how truly blessed I feel that you were there for me on that horrifying day," the homeowner said. "You will remain my hero!”
Thanks Justin for being a Republic Services Rockstar!

Another successful Rock the Block in the books! Partnering with Republic Services for their National Neighborhood Promise Day, we were able to complete projects at 12 worksites in Southfield over two days. Alongside Habitat construction staff and homeowners, volunteers repaired porches, installed fences, painted, cleaned gutters, replaced cracked concrete and cleaned up yards as part of the neighborhood revitalization initiative. Thank you to Republic Services, Henniges Automotive, Best Block, Pleasantrees, Christ the Redeemer, CooperStandard, Chief Financial CU, Spire Integrated Systems, Inc., and Signarama, we couldn’t have done it without you.
