Do you know the top 4 places in your home at risk of a leak?
The shower, the water heater, the washing machine and the roof.
If you notice any water on the floor near the objects (or the attic for a roof leak) this could be an indication of a leak. You should immediately get the area inspected to prevent further damage.
The toilet and the kitchen are also at risk of leaks because of how often they are used.
The best way to avoid leaks is to have your home inspected regularly.

Did you know the most common cause of a house fire is cooking?
The NFPA recommends the following in case of a cooking fire:
Get out! When you leave make sure to close the door behind you to prevent the fire from spreading.
Call 911 after you leave.
Keep a lid nearby when cooking to stop a small grease fire. Cover the pan with the lid and turn off the stove. Keep the lid on until it is completely cooled.
Turn off the heat and keep the oven door closed during an oven fire.
Home fires not only put your family at risk, but also your pets! Follow these tips to keep your pet safe from a house fire:
Get rid of stove knobs. If your dog is tall enough to reach the stove knobs, remove or protect them when you leave the room.
Put out open flames. Pets are very curious about open flames from candles, fireplaces and cooking. Be sure to put out any open flames when leaving the room.
Be sure your dog wears a collar and keep a leash at the ready in case a firefighter needs to rescue your dog.
Include pets in your fire escape plan to ensure your family knows to help them get to safety.

Install smoke detectors on every level of your home, inside bedrooms and outside sleeping areas.
Make sure to test smoke alarms every month and change the batteries if needed.
Create a fire escape plan and practice the plan with your family twice a year.
If a fire does occur, GET OUT, STAY OUT, and CALL FOR HELP. Do not go back inside for anything or anyone, wait for the fire department to arrive.

Merry Christmas From Restoration 1 of Fort Wayne!
If you own a fireplace, here are some tips to make sure your fireplace is safe for use.
Be sure to inspect your chimney cap regularly. Replace or repair the cap if it is damaged. If your chimney does not have a cap install one to ensure no debris or animals can get into the chimney.
Keep all flammable objects such as books, paper, furniture and decorations at least 2 feet away from the fireplace.
Keep a fire extinguisher in the same room as the fireplace.
Have a glass fireplace door or a mesh metal screen to prevent hot embers from shooting out of the fireplace.
Never leave the fire burning when going to sleep or leaving the house.
Here are some tips to follow to ensure you decorate your Christmas tree safely!
Use only Christmas lights that are rated for indoor use and tested for safety.
Before using lights be sure to check each set of lights for broken cords, broken sockets, and loose bulbs. Replace the damaged bulbs as well.
Do not connect more than three standard size light strands into an extension cord. Don’t overload electrical outlets or extension cords.
Never use real candles to decorate your christmas tree. Use only battery operated, flameless LED candles instead.
Turn off all the Christmas lights and decorations when going to bed or leaving home.
Keep your pets safe by protecting electric cords and lights so that they can't chew them and get electrocuted.
Happy Thanksgiving from everyone at Restoration 1 of Fort Wayne!
With the Holiday season coming up, follow these tips to keep your home safe when using holiday lights:
Make sure outdoor lights are rated for exterior use. Exterior lights and extension cords must be weather resistant.
Attach lights to trees, house, walls, or other firm support to protect from wind damage. Never attach lights with staples or nails as these can go through the wires and start a fire. Use only UL approved hangers.
Take outdoor lights down within 90 days to prevent damage from the weather or animals chewing on them.
After taking the lights down wrap them around a piece of cardboard and store them in a safe location covered with fabric. This is to avoid any cords or bulbs breaking and to avoid tangled lights.
