🇺🇸 Biological response modifiers are the newest class of drugs used to treat rheumatoid arthritis (RA). These modern biologics have greatly improved treatment for many people with RA. Unlike older disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs), biologic DMARDs are made using biotechnology. They are genetically engineered to act like natural proteins in your immune system.
Your doctor may suggest that you start drug therapy right after your diagnosis. This can help combat joint damage. Methotrexate is often the first drug prescribed, but your doctor may give you a biologic drug if methotrexate doesn’t work well enough.
Biologics don’t cure RA, but they can dramatically slow its progression. They also cause fewer side effects than older drugs. People who don’t respond to older RA drugs, such as methotrexate, may benefit from treatment with a biologic. Sometimes biologics may be given alone. Other times they may be given in combination with another type of drug. Taking a biologic drug with methotrexate is effective for most people with RA. ⠀

Esses modernos biológicos melhoraram bastante o tratamento para muitas pessoas com AR. Diferentes dos antigos modificadores de doença reumática (DMARDs). Os DMARDs biológicos são produzidos utilizando biotecnologia. Eles são geneticamente modificados para agir como proteínas naturais no seu sistema imunológico.

🇺🇸What is the ANA test? ANA = antinuclear antibodies.
1️⃣ Your immune system normally makes antibodies to help you fight infection.
2️⃣ In contrast, antinuclear antibodies often attack your body's own tissues — specifically targeting each cell's nucleus.
3️⃣ In most cases, a positive ANA test indicates that your immune system has launched a misdirected attack on your own tissue — in other words, an autoimmune reaction. But some people have positive ANA tests even when they're healthy.
4️⃣ An ANA test CAN'T confirm a specific diagnosis
5️⃣ If the ANA test is positive, your blood can be tested for the presence of particular antinuclear antibodies, some of which are specific to certain diseases.
6️⃣ Some infectious diseases and cancers have been associated with the development of antinuclear antibodies, as have certain drugs.
7️⃣ The result of your ANA test is one piece of information your doctor can use to help determine the cause of your signs and symptoms
🇧🇷O que é o teste chamado FAN? FAN = fator antinuclear.
