Great job Bruce! Pink Ribbon - Frederick, MD October 19 at 12:00 PM · Bruce Reeder is the Top Individual Fundraiser Again! His team, Breast Friends, is the top Team Fundraiser! Bruce raised over $8,000 individually, and his team raised more than $10,000! In total Bruce has raised nearly $30,000 for the Hurwitz Breast Cancer Fund. Bruce began by supporting national efforts, but a few years ago, he decided to support our local 5K. THANK YOU, BRUCE!! Read how Bruce has been so successful. Well, this wonderful journey started in 2008 when I joined a friend to walk for Breast Cancer. At that time, the walk required a fundraising minimum of $1,800. This concerned me very much as I had never raised that much money for anything. In 2008, I was able to raise $2,415. Now, 14 years later, I have raised $78,000 with this year’s total being $8,300. Some ask how I do it. Well, I spend time researching for potential donors, whether they are personal or business relationships. If you know them in whatever way, consider them as a potential donor. I reach out to then with an email, on social media or by letter that describes this wonderful cause. Make it as easy as possible for them to donate, that goes along way. I share about the incredible survivors that I have met over many years and how I shared smiles and tears of joy with them. You can’t believe the smiles that survivors have on their faces in spite of what they have been through. It is rare that a day goes by that I do not think of them. The best advice I can give someone about fundraising is to be persistent. Ask donors multiple times for donations and feel proud doing so. Everyone gets busy with work and family so the first contact is not usually the one that gets a donation. Start your fundraising as soon as the donor site is open. To me, when compared to what survivors have been through raising money becomes easier. I look forward to continuing my support for the Hurwitz Breast Cancer Fund for many years to come.
