As owner of Rivenbark & Roper Antiques, I take great pleasure in opening my shop each morning and taking a quiet pause to marvel at the many objects of beauty that have been passed down from generation to generation.
My love of antiques can be traced back to my early childhood when I was taught by my aunt about taking care of antique furniture. She was always looking for worthy pieces that needed the love of a new home. First, she would unload the furniture in her garage, where she would clean each piece and begin the process of treating the wood surfaces. “You begin the process of bringing the furniture back to life”, she would say. “Did you know that furniture can actually breathe?” Shaking my head no, she would smile as she continued to work. “We are cleaning its pores to help it breathe again.” After hours of work, sometimes even weeks, the antique would be ready to be moved into her home. My aunt would place the item in its perfect place, and then call me over to sit in her lap.
“Look at that. See how beautifully it becomes a part of our home”. “Now, since we have given this piece of furniture new life, we have two obligations, First, we have to take care of it so many people after, will be able to enjoy it also. Second, and most important, you have to take a moment every now and then, to enjoy its beauty and know that this antique is now a part of our family”. How blessed was I to have such an introduction to the world of antiques.
The same ideals have been a part of the mission of Rivenbark & Roper Antiques. It gives me such a personal lift to be a small part of bringing beauty, style, and elegance to so many homes. We hope each customer will experience the hospitality and personal service we attempt to share.
When buying merchandise for my shop, I hand select each item. I am always looking for what will enhance my shop as well as a client’s home. It has to resonate with me, or as some would say “speak to me”. Furthermore, be assured, that I continue the tradition of placing the antique in its perfect spot, then, taking a moment to sit back and enjoy its beauty, just as my aunt taught me.
I invite you to stop and visit my shop. Perhaps you will find the perfect addition to your family home.
