Some Basic Safety Tips During Floods: 1. Turn Around, Don’t Drown! (When driving, walking, deciding to paddle, it’s best to play it safe!) 2. Avoid walking or driving through flood waters. (Just 6 inches of moving water can knock you down, and 2 feet of water can sweep your vehicle away) 3. If there is a chance of flash flooding, move immediately to higher ground. (Flash floods are the #1 cause of weather-related deaths in the US.) 4. If floodwaters rise around your car but the water is not moving, abandon the car and move to higher ground. (Do not leave the car and enter moving water.) 5. Avoid camping or parking along streams, rivers, and creeks during heavy rainfall. These areas can flood quickly and with little warning. 6. When the Tar floods this high, expect portions of the Greenway to be flooded as well. Even if it’s not raining (and the storms have passed) it won’t necessarily mean the Greenway is clear of flood waters. Observe tips 1-5 on the Greenway and stay safe! Be smart! Don’t paddle!

You can begin anywhere! Yesterday was such a special day for me. I had the opportunity to walk the beautiful greenway with my sister and remember where I was just five years ago. It was at this very spot on the greenway that I looked out over the beautiful Tar River and received a vision for what is now Riverside Recreation. I turned to my sister and asked, “why isn’t the river full of kayaks? Why don’t we have that here?” She looked at me and said, “you should do it.” And, after turning my head sideways like a curious K-9, I said, “you know what, I can do it! I will do it!” It was a Sunday afternoon, and our pastor had just preached on the ever popular Habakkuk 2:2-3 2 And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. 3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. With this word written upon my heart, I decided in that moment that I was going to pursue this dream. I loved kayaking (really any outdoor recreation) but I didn’t have any experience writing a business plan (let alone running a business). But I didn’t need those experiences, I just needed a vision. And nearly five years later, as I’m standing in the same spot where I received a vision for what is now my business, I’m feeling overwhelmed with thankfulness! In awe of my Heavenly Father’s faithfulness. Riverside Recreation has just been selected as the City of Greenville’s watercraft vendor at Town Common. Though it tarried, we’ve reached the appointed time. I hope this encourages you that you truly can Begin Anywhere. It doesn’t matter your background, experience or lack thereof, if you have a dream, a goal, an aspiration, all you need to do is write your vision, and make it plain. Though it tarry, WAIT! It WILL surely come to pass! I’m so honored to be able to provide these services to the community I love! I’m excited for the impact Riverside Recreation is going to make, and most thankful to God for empowering me and equipping me for such a time as this. Blessings, @king.shavonne
