It is time for the Simon Center "Adopt-A-Highway" Fall Clean Up! In 2020, we will be doing things a little different. The clean-up will take place over the 3-4 October weekend. Our section is Reston Parkway between South Lakes and Lawyers. It usually works well to break it up into 4 sections (South Lakes to Glade and Glade to Lawyers - 2x for each side). So grab a friend and sign up for a time slot that works best for you! We will have the usual fun orange vests and bags. The safety briefing can be watch from the comfort of your own home. We will keep the supplies on the playground. One box for clean vests, bags, and gloves and another for you to return the used gear. There will also be a map, so others will know what areas have already be cleared. Thank you in advance for helping us keep our "little piece" of Reston looking good! (Reminder: all volunteers need to be 10 yrs old or older to participate.) https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0A4FAEA72AA2FB6-fall
It has been easy for many of us, as adults, to express to our friends and families how we've been affected by quarantine, how we're feeling, and how we're coping. But it can be a bit more difficult for children to articulate those same feelings. On the blog this week, we're discussing the effects we've seen on children as we've been resuming a sense of normalcy this school year. Take a few moments to have a read! https://simoncenter.org/quarantine-and-children/

In October, we will begin our "fall campaign" of fundraising. On the 5th, we will have a fundraiser at Lucia's restaurant in Herndon, VA from 11 AM to 9 PM. We will be "dining for a cause"; they have dine-in, carry-out, delivery, and curbside options. Just say you are "supporting the Simon Center" and we will get 10% of your total order (does not include tax, gratuity, or alcoholic purchases). Also on 10/5, our "School Days" fundraiser at teacollection.com begins and goes through 10/12. Using our school promo code SDF20ROBERTE at check out gives the Simon Center 15% donated back to our program. Have a nice meal and enjoy some online shopping to be socially-distanced while fundraising for the Simon Center. Thanks!

Transitioning children back to in-person care can be a process for parents. We are so impressed with all of our Simon Center parents and how they have navigated these strange waters the past few months. We've noticed a few tips that we think make the process even easier, and wanted to share them with you this week! https://simoncenter.org/a-guide-for-parents-transitioning-children-back-to-in-person-care A Guide for Parents Transitioning Children Back to In-Person Care – Robert E. We've been thrilled this year with the addition of the Kindergarten room at the Center, and getting to welcome some new children (and their families!) into our family. We all know that teachers are the staple of everything that we do here at Simon Center, and our Kindergarten teacher Mrs. Swink is no exception. Learn a little bit more about her in our teacher spotlight this week! Mrs. Swink's Kindergarten class does have a few openings left for this year. Reach out to us at the center to come meet her and see how we do Kindergarten at Simon Center :) http://simoncenter.org/teacher-spotlight-mrs-swink/ SIMONCENTER.ORG Teacher Spotlight: Mrs. Swink – Robert E. A week of pumpkin 'prep' for the big day one week away!
The Simon Center is excited to be offering a few additional openings in several of our rooms this year. Come take a tour to meet our family, see the center, and learn about our children-first philosophy. For new families looking to come on board in the 2020 year, we're offering a free month of tuition to families who enroll in November or December as a thank you for joining our family. Reach out to us today to schedule a tour, or for more information!

This has been a trying year for parents, and we know that there has been a lot of "parents should"-ing going around that can be tough to navigate. So, we wanted to take a moment to tell all parents- you're doing great! https://simoncenter.org/a-letter-to-parents/ A Letter to Parents – Robert E. Simon Jr. Children's Center It occurred to us recently that in this strange 2020 climate there is no one feeling more stress and pressure than parents. Do you send your kids back to school? Do you not? Do you settle on half virtual school, half in person? The decisions are never ending, and we know firsthand the toll these kin... A Letter to Parents – Robert E.
