In the early 1930's, E. Robert (Bob) Johnson, a native of Minnesota, answered an ad in the newspaper for a nationwide traveling mechanic to install ventilation systems in existing bank vaults. One of his jobs brought him to work in a bank in Lewistown, Pennsylvania and he decided to stay. In 1939, Bob purchased a bankrupt hardware store in Lewistown and founded Robert Johnson Hardware. After WWII Bob expanded his business to install heating systems and incorporated his business as Robert Johnson Plumbing and Heating Company. By the early 1960's he expanded his business once again into the new air-conditioning market. His youngest son, James B. (Jim), came on board in 1973 and worked with his father until Bob's passing in 1988. Jim assumed leadership of the company and continued to grow the business into one of the leading mechanical contractors in the region. In December of 2016, Jim passed on the torch to Kathy Koetje-Simin through the sale of the business. Kathy brings accounting and financial industry experience along with a passion for employees and customers.
