It’s appropriate that National Time Management Month is the shortest month of the year. This February, let’s find time to talk.
Happy February 1st! Can you believe we are already in the second month of 2021…? I know we can’t! This month our office is celebrating Heart Health Awareness. In the United States heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women and according to the CDC about 655,000 Americans die from heart disease each year. These numbers are surreal and so, we would like to invite you to join us this month in our Steps Against Heart Disease Challenge. Everyone in our office is going to strive for 6,000 steps per day and by the end of the month we hope to total 1 million steps for February. We hope you will join us even if 6,000 is not realistic for you, set YOUR goal and reach it every day for the whole month!
There are SO many benefits to walking, here are a FEW. It can decrease the risk of heart disease, obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure and depression. If you are someone that works a desk job or a job where you don’t walk as much throughout your day, or maybe this weather makes you want to hibernate, here are a few ways to get more walking in. If you have pets that need to be walked, bundle up and walk outside with them even if it’s just around the block. If you are going somewhere like work, the grocery store or to run errands, park further away! Take the stairs instead of the elevator if you can! All these options allow you to get more steps in even if it doesn’t seem like a lot, small changes eventually add up to HUGE results.
If you do not have a device like an Apple Watch, fit bit, or any of the different kinds of watches that track your steps for you daily, you can download apps on your phone! If you have an iPhone, you already have the Health App, which tracks your steps. If you don’t have an iPhone, you can download free apps like Pacer or Map My Walk to help you keep track, but if you just want to get in on the fun and don’t want to count your steps that is fine too because at the end of the day this isn’t for numbers on a watch, it is for your health!!
I will be attempting to update you weekly on where our office is at in our steps for the week! We also have a few more fun things we will be sharing with you throughout the month! Happy February!
