If you know Ursula Tice-Alarcon, you know she has a big heart, and an even bigger smile. Thank you for sharing your story this Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month, Ursula! "I came to Lahey 6 years ago, as the only Latino manager in the organization. It was an exciting time as I had the opportunity to redesign and build the new Department of Interpreter Services. It was a significant moment in my professional life as a cultural educator and linguist, while developing initiatives that have changed the care we provide to our diverse population of patients. In my professional life my background plays a big role. I grew up in a culture of open doors, sharing tables, appreciating and respecting every person regardless of social status. Helping and advocating for others in need is not an extraordinary act, but a human principle."
Pranayama is the art of controlled breathing. As we near the end of #NationalYogaMonth, we thought a nice #TBT would be our interpretive services manager Ursula Tice-Alarcon demonstrating how to incorporate pranayama into your daily life, helping to bring positive energy in and pushing negativity out.🧘‍♀️
Janice Morrisette is a nurse manager at Lahey and a proud Latina. Her sense of leadership is deeply tied to her roots and upbringing. We're proud to have her lead at LHMC! "As a child growing up, I was absolutely fortunate to be surrounded by a strong Latino family, community and culture. I am the daughter of Puerto Rican parents who instilled in me a fierce sense of pride, passion and resilience that sees me through this journey we call life. And again, I find myself surrounded by a strong team of family and community here at LHMC who have a passion for patient care and who have shown a tremendous amount of resiliency during these difficult times. My culture has taught me this: what happens to one person happens to all. And when challenging times are upon us, we rally together to make it through." #LaheyHospital #LatinaAtLahey #Latinx #LatinxHeritageMonth #HispanicHeritageMonth
Beth Israel Lahey Health 17 hrs · "One of the lessons we healthcare workers learned during the pandemic is how to lean on each other. Traditionally, we have always focused on our patients' needs at the expense of our own and rightly so. During these difficult times, however, caring for ourselves and our colleagues has become just as important." -Edwin T. “I grew up on the beach and always wore sunscreen. But as a mom with three kids, I ended up lathering my kids way more than myself.” Farrah Keegan of Saugus, MA thought she saw a sunspot on her thigh at the end of March, early April. “I kept looking at it and looking at it and decided to call my PCP in May.” Farrah’s primary care physician referred her to Adam Wulkan, Director of Laser and Cosmetic Dermatology and Lahey Health Hub, part of @bethisraelaheyhealth. During a telehealth call, Dr. Wulkan urged the mother of three to come in to have a biopsy. “It was melanoma, but it had not progressed.” Thankfully, Dr. Wulkan was able to work with Farrah to schedule an appointment to excise the lesion within two weeks of their first in person visit. “Timing was everything, if she had waited too long, the cancer could have grown downward and spread to other parts of her body, including her brain,” says Wulkan. Catch more of Farrah's story on WCVB Channel 5 Boston tonight at 5PM. https://bit.ly/3nxyPN9

Supply & Logistics, Supply Chain Manager, Anderson Jean honors change-makers that fought for equality and considers how he can continue their work for future generations. "As a Haitian American, #BlackHistoryMonth is a reminder that I stand on the shoulders of greatness: great men and women who sacrificed all they had. They fought, bled, and protested, so that I can be where I am today. There is no higher cause than honoring, paying tribute, and reflecting on the activities and organizers of the past who fought for racial equality for everyone. It is a proud moment for me as a Black American to see the dreams that were paved because they were optimistic that change would come. I am happy to know that a lot was done for the benefit of future generations. However, I am also eager to continue to work and to demand more changes so that the next generation can inherit a country where all men and women are free in the pursuit of their happiness."
It's a beautiful day for a visit from our favorite furry friends! ☀️ Thank you for stopping by Tillie, Hunter and Zest! #TherapyDog
