Well we did it. RIPYWE had an actual "live" in-person rehearsal yesterday. To be as safe as possible, we did it in 3 shifts to keep the number of students there under 30, separated by at least 12 feet, masks always, except when impossible to play, and only 30 minutes of actual playing at a time. Was it worth it? Absolutely. To get to see these superb young musicians in person, and hearing them do some actual balancing, listening, expressing, etc and adjusting during a rehearsal -- I did tear up a bit! We played Mozart, Sousa, and excerpts from The Fair Day (bit of an Irish "symphony") I'm already thinking about tweaks for the next outdoor gathering. OUr Wednesday night Zoom gatherings are going well, but this was so refreshing. HUGE thanks to Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School for allowing this to happen, Christine Eldridge, Leslie Lee, and Donald Dupre for their assistance. AND of course to all of the RIPYWE students who followed the regs so well, and for their hard work. (and my wife Janice who helped me with the "X" marks!)
