About

Dr. Robin Unger has a practice, in New York City, exclusively dedicated to hair restoration. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS) and a member of the ISHRS. She is one of the most well respected specialists in the field and one of the few female surgeons who performs this surgery on both men and women with hair loss. Approximately 40% of her patients are female and the remaining portion are men with hair loss. The emphasis in the practice is on providing superior cosmetic results and furthering the education of patients as well as physicians. Dr. Unger operates on only one patient a day and is therefore able to focus all her attention on every detail. The practice is shared with her father and mentor, Dr. Walter Unger – allowing for continual dialogue, exchange of ideas, and further refinement of technique on an ongoing basis. As an Assistant Clinical Professor on staff with the department of dermatology at Mt Sinai Hospital she also makes time in her schedule to teach the art of hair restoration surgery to residents and fellows from around the globe. Dr. Unger is a co-editor of the most comprehensive textbook in the field of hair restoration, Hair Transplantation 5th edition, and has authored numerous other chapters and articles advancing the specialty of hair restoration surgery.

@Nutrafol: Stress is a trigger of hair thinning that results in shedding, damage around the follicle, and delayed growth. Luckily, the stress adaptogens in Nutrafol target stress and help you bounce back from it to save your hair. Click the link in our bio to learn more!
Dr. Unger believes the patient is usually the best one to decide, and does not adhere to any doctrine limiting the age or stage of hair loss. The amount of existing hair is not important provided the hair transplant surgeon has the skill necessary to prevent permanent injury to this hair. Some individuals want to be very pro-active and either have an aversion to or have failed medical therapy: they may still have a significant amount of native hair but never want to go through a “bald” period. The patient may have hair loss unnoticeable except to themselves, or may have severe loss which has bothered them for quite a while. In order to start your journey, schedule an appointment with Dr.Unger so she can evaluate your case.

Alopecia areata is an immunological condition that causes hair to fall out in small patches, which can be unnoticeable. These patches may connect, however, and then become noticeable. There’s no known cure for alopecia areata, but there are treatments, like our PRP Therapy that can revert or slow down hair loss or help hair grow back more quickly.
Dr. Robin Unger has been investigating and perfecting her technique in PRP treatment since 2010. There have been many refinements over the years. Her results have been very encouraging and she has helped many patients who had no other options available to them. This an example of a very happy patient that went through our PRP process! You can visit our website for more information or to schedule an evaluation with Dr. Unger
There are many things that can damage the scalp and hair. The main ones are: The sun: Sun damage causes thinning of the epidermis and dermis. Hair products: Hair care products and treatments may cause damage to the hair shaft and scalp skin. It’s important to wear sun protection (like a hat) while being exposed to the sun for a long period of time. Remember to choose hair products that contain hair growth stimulation ingredients or elements that are soft on your scalp.
Exfoliation of the scalp helps promote hair growth. It can fight inflammation-inducing buildup while increasing healthy blood flow. A simple and natural way of exfoliating at home is to mix a bit of raw sugar into your shampoo and rub gently onto the scalp with the balls of fingers for an easy crown polish.
While there’s no evidence of hair loss being a direct symptom from covid, more hair loss patients have been registered all over the world since the pandemic started. Why? Severe sudden stress can lead to hair loss Supplements can be enormously helpful to avoid hair shed, as they strengthen the hair from the inside out. Nutrafol’s innovative formula including ashwagandha and turmeric, support the immune system, reduces stress, and balances the body as a whole.
If there are 3 things that cause more damage to hair follicles than anything else, it’s these: Hot showers : Not only can hot showers dry out your scalp, but they strip away natural oils that protect the hair Hair dryers and straighteners: Let hair dry naturally. If you must, use a cool hair dryer and avoid straighteners wherever possible. Hair color dyes: peroxide and other harsh chemicals will inevitably damage the hair when used repeatedly.
Platelet rich plasma, or #PRP for hair loss, is a technique that involves using your own blood, filtering it so that only the platelet rich portion remains, and then introducing that plasma to the scalp via a tiny needle. Dr. Robin Unger has been investigating and perfecting her technique in PRP treatment since 2010. There have been many refinements over the years. Her results have been very encouraging and she has helped many patients who had no other options available to them. Many individuals report exceptional results as part of the best platelet rich plasma New York has to offer. If you are suffering from hair loss, schedule an evaluation with Dr.Unger. She’ll determine if PRP is the best option for you

Patients having this surgery for the first time should ideally take 7-10 days away from work and social activities if they want to keep the procedure confidential. In most cases, this amount of time is actually more than necessary. However, if you have planned to return to work after 3-4 days and you happen to be one of the patients with more swelling or bruising than the average patient, it can become a very awkward situation. Usually, the first surgery is a good indicator of future healing, thus your schedule can be adjusted for subsequent surgeries. Obviously, patients with more pre-existing hair and those working posterior to the frontal hair line will have an easier time camouflaging the area during the postoperative period.

Doctors are seeing a huge increase in patients who have been shedding abnormal amounts of hair, and they believe it is related to stress associated with the coronavirus. Visit our link in bio to read the full article.
Like any other part of your body, hair needs a variety of nutrients to be healthy and grow. In fact, many nutritional deficiencies are linked to hair loss. While factors such as age, genetics and hormones also affect hair growth, optimal nutrient intake is key.

@nutrafol: There’s no getting around it: we live in a toxic world. Your hair products, your breakfast, and the air you breathe can all be hidden avenues of toxic exposure. This spells bad news for hair, as toxins have the capability to damage hair follicles and impair the systems our body usually utilizes to keep them protected and flourishing, impacting everything from the microbiome to hormones to DNA. While we can’t control everything about our environment, the good news is we have the power to avoid some of our exposure and support how our body handles the rest.
@nutrafol : The scariest thing we’re facing this Halloween? STRESS! 👻 🎃 And the stress of this year is starting to show up as hair thinning for many of us. The good news is that a lot of the adverse effects stress has on our hair can be fixed: The ashwagandha, tocotrienols, and curcumin in your #4aday help your body handle stress, in turn helping you see your hair grow thick and healthy. Click the link in our bio to read more about the stress and hair connection on our blog!
Have you tried Nutrafol yet? Dr. Unger recommends Nutrafol suppelents thanks to its medical-grade botanicals meant to promote hair growth. Nutrafol not only patented the Synergen Complex blend this summer, but it also provides other products like Nutrafol Women, Nutrafol Men, and Nutrafol Women Balance, which specifically targets women going through menopause. You can read more about Nutrafol’s new Synergen Complex at yahoo news.
The reason you suffer from an excessive amount of hair loss in the winter is that the dry air outside sucks out all the moisture from your scalp, and makes it dry as well. A dry scalp leads to dry hair, and dry hair results in breakage, and hair fall. Consuming the proper vitamin supplements, giving yourself oil massages (jojoba or olive oil) and using moisturizing hair masks might prevent shedding.
@nutrafol: Some stressors are so in-your-face that you can’t help but notice them. The stress of a deadline at work, for example, is obvious and easy to pinpoint. These noticeable stressors rev up the stress hormone cortisol, which then dwindles as our lives go back to normal. But what if your work life turns toxic and daily cortisol spikes become your new normal? That’s when a steady undercurrent of chronic (or long-term) stress can throw off the hair growth cycle and lead to hair shedding and thinning. #Nutrafol was formulated with ingredients that support a healthy stress response by increasing our ability to adapt to and improve resilience to stress, like ashwagandha.
- Eliminate stress: While that may be easier said than done, it’s an important factor in keeping the hair that you have. Stress can often amplify the hormonal changes you’re going through and thereby, increase the thinning of your hair. - Watch your diet: You are what you eat! Reducing saturated fats and increasing your intake of whole grains and fruits and vegetables will not only help regulate your changing hormones, but keep your feeling healthy and happy - Keeping hydrated will also help keep the hair you have healthy and strong. - Add some vitamins: B6 and folic acid can be used as a women’s hair loss treatment in Manhattan, as these vitamins are commonly associated with reinforcing the follicles of your hair–keeping it healthy and strong! - Exercise: Aerobic exercise releases endorphins that help regulate the shifting of estrogen and testosterone. Not only can this help your hair, but endorphins are commonly known as the “happy hormone” and can improve your mood, and keep mood swings from taking over
We love closing 2020 with your amazing comments and reviews. Thank you!
Theoretically, #liposomalATP is believed to accelerate the uptake of oxygen by cells. As applied to hair transplantation, this may improve the speed of healing and produce higher rates of survival. Dr Jerry Cooley has been at the forefront of this research, and he has determined that the optimal use for this product is at a specific concentration to be sprayed on the recipient area every two hours for the first 48 hours and then every 3-4 hours. Thus it is fairly labor intensive for the patient. We are just starting to treat patients with the liposomal ATP and we will carefully document results at 2 month intervals.
Happy Holidays! No matter what you celebrate, we want to wish you days full of love and happiness. Remember to stay safe!

#Nutrafol is a great supplement to avoid hair loss and breakage. Side effects, while rare, may include slight nausea. So make sure you are taking it with food as is advised in the usage directions. This is also important because food (the fat, really) helps the body absorb all these powerful ingredients.
Hair transplant surgery is a very safe procedure. Most commonly, patients can experience swelling, changes in sensitivity on their scalps, and possible temporary shedding of hair in the treatment area. As with all surgeries, an infection is always possible the scalp's excellent blood supply makes this very unlikely. We are here to make this procedure safe and comfortable for you, every step of the way. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have more questions!
Before pursuing surgery, there are alternatives to hair transplants that are important to consider and are worth giving a try. These include: Medical treatment with a hormone modulator. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Exosome Therapy SMP: A temporary micropigmentation to camouflage the whiteness of the scalp Dr. Unger can determine what the best option for you is! Starting the year with amazing reviews! Thank you!
Repost @Nutrafol: Can you hear that? It’s your body talking to you! If you listen closely, you might be able to tell which triggers are causing your hair to thin. Can you relate to any of these symptoms? 🤔
There is a distinct downside to silicone hair products. The seal they create keeps hair hydrated from within, but this protective layer can block other nourishing ingredients from penetrating deep into the hair follicle. Over time, silicone can also build up on your hair, resulting in a dry feel and dull appearance. You may even notice that your hair becomes weaker and more prone to breakage. Tell me, are you staying silicone free?
As we know, February is the month of love but how about this time we focus on self love? Self love might look different for everyone, so take some time to give your hair what it needs. And remember that we are here to help.
Hair loss during menopause is the result of a hormonal imbalance. Specifically, it's related to a lowered production of estrogen and progesterone. These hormones help hair grow faster and stay on the head for longer periods of time. Eating a balanced, low-fat diet is your best defense against hair loss. Make sure you include an adequate amount of whole grains, fruits, and vegetables in every meal. It’s also important to incorporate mono-saturated oils, such as olive oil and sesame oil, into your diet. Remember that if you are experiencing heavy shedding or thinning, Dr.Unger can find a solution for you.
#Nutrafol is suitable for most people from all walks of life. They have three natural formulations – two for women and one for men, each designed to suit the unique needs of both sexes. Nutrafol is just not recommended for people under the age of 18. If you have a medical condition, or are taking medications (especially anticoagulant and blood-thinning drugs), please consult with your physician before taking Nutrafol.
From her practice in New York City, Dr. Robin Unger evaluates each patient as an individual, and recommends the hair loss treatment approach best suited to their specific situation. She treats men and women with varying degrees of hair loss, but her surgical specialty is treating areas with pre-existing hair. The existing hair is protected during the surgery, the patient can continue to wear it in the style he/she prefers and the grafts are artistically placed between the current hairs in a pattern that will look natural over the very long term. Happy Valentine’s day! Whether you are celebrating it with a special someone, your friends, family or having a self love day by yourself, we hope you have a lovely day!
Repost @Nutrafol: Have you ever considered that more than one factor is causing your hair to thin, break or shed? Over time, these “root causes” of hair thinning can accumulate and negatively impact your overall hair health. Luckily, the first step to thicker, fuller hair is understanding what’s causing the problem in the first place. The second is to work on achieving the actions and feelings of “column 1" more than “column 2.” Focus, breathe. You’re getting one step closer to your best hair every day!
Shower shedding is more common than you think. It’s important to understand that your hair shedding is multifactorial, meaning that there are multiple triggers that could be affecting your hair’s health. Usually some lifestyle changes and taking vitamin supplements can help the issue. If you do not see a difference, or if you notice excessive shedding, you might need a professional evaluation. Don’t hesitate to contact us for an appointment
We appreciate every single one of your reviews! Thank you!
Your hair and scalp are often good indicators of your overall health. Many things can affect the health of your hair in general, whether you have thicker hair or thin hair. Here are some common things that can be causing damage to your scalp.
Nutrient” (nourishing component) plus “pharmaceutical-grade” (bioactive) = “Nutraceutical". Nutraceuticals are medical-grade, standardized, bio-optimized botanical ingredients. During the extraction and purification process, they’re held to exacting pharmaceutical-grade standards. Nutrafol’s offers quality nutraceutical ingredients in each one of their pills. We recommend it to all of our patients as a way to help hair loss
