Just a few days left to sponsor our 1st ever Walkin’ for Wishes event benefitting Make-A-Wish Central and Western North Carolina! This year, we’re swapping our usual cornhole bags for tennis shoes and walking 28.3 miles around the city of Charlotte to help raise funds and awareness for the organization. Walkin’ for Wishes is mirrored after Make-A-Wish’s Trailblaze Challenge hikes that launched in 2013 and is a spinoff of our annual Pitchin' for Wishes Charlotte Cornhole Tourney that unfortunately has been canceled this year.

Just like Pitchin’, many of Make-A-Wish Central and Western North Carolina’s 2020 fundraising events have been postponed or canceled. At the same time, many wish experiences have been delayed. That means, their work is quickly multiplying while critical funds to make wishes come true is delayed. With more than 400 local kids waiting for their wishes, we’re hopeful that Walkin’ for Wishes will help fill the gap!

Yesterday was all about 6-year-old Collier who received his wish for a truck shaped playset back in April. Not only will Collier's playset bring him joy and happiness for many years to come, it will also aid him physically. Congratulations to Josie Vegter, our 4th quarter Roby Rock Star of 2020! Josie is the Project Coordinator for our Andrew Roby Inc. division, and is the eyes and ears of the department. She works closely with our team of Project Managers to keep them organized. In a nutshell, she is the “right hand woman” to many folks in our company and does whatever it takes to keep us up and running. Most days her job is not easy, but she always remains positive and finds solutions. For example, in 2020 we transitioned over to a new companywide leads software. Josie was instrumental in educating the team on the new system, tackling any issues and complications, and was proactive in finding solutions to problems before they came up. We would have crashed and burned without her!

While 2020 forced us to pivot and adjust many of our plans and traditions, it also challenged us to think outside the box and get a little creative. As a result, just this morning, a new yearly tradition may have been born! In place of our annual holiday party, we hosted a simple drive-thru breakfast for our field crews that included biscuits, coffee, fist pumps and a beautiful sunrise. It was a fun way to “visit” with many folks we don’t get to see on a daily basis and wish them a Merry Christmas. By 2021, we certainly hope our holiday party is back up and running, but we just might keep this breakfast going too!
