Hello Facebook friends!! We are back and open for business. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 issues, we have slightly scaled back our hours. We are now open Monday - Friday 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Due to the size of our store we can only accommodate two customers at a time so we ask for your patience. In order to access the building and the store you must wear a mask.
If you have an existing loan with us and were unable to pay/pickup due to the closure (March 18 - June 8), we are forgiving the interest for those days were were closed. This grace period will be in effect through July 11th. Any loan not brought current by close of business July 11th will be subject to all accumulated interest due.

This adorable geode rocked our world and put a smile on our faces! Dubbed the "Cookie Monster" geode after the Sesame Street character, this volcanic agate geode was found by a miner in a riverbed in Soledade, Brazil in November, 2020. A GIA graduate then contacted California-based geologist, Mike Bowers, who purchased this extraordinary find. Collectors have offered him over US$10,000 for this geode. That's enough to buy a lot of cookies! But then, this geode has the seal of approval from the Cookie Monster himself: "Me no geologist, but me think dat rock look a lot like me" Cookie Monster Photo: Mike Bowers.

Demantoid from Baluchistan Province in Pakistan
Lets talk about Moissanite. Moissanite has become a popular diamond substitute. Specifically, synthetic moissanite. Named for Henri Moisson, moissanite is crystalized silicon carbide. While it does occur naturally, it rarely is colorless. While an adequate substitute, after a while it can loose its shine (like a cubic zirconia) and become fuzzy or hazy. Now that we have covered Cut, Carat, Color and Clarity lets touch upon shapes. The most classic and most popular is the round brilliant. It is by far the brightest of the cuts. For a while, princess cut (square) was the popular cut. Popular last year was oval and pear shaped. No clear shape has emerged this year, but we've seen a small resurgence of marquise shape, which hasn't been popular in a while. After we reopened post-quarantine we had several requests for heart shaped. There are so many shapes not represented on this char, find the shape you love and let us get to work for you!
Our final C is for carat. Carat is simply the unit of measure for how much a diamond weighs. A carat is divided into 100 points. For example, if you have a diamond that is 50 points, it weighs .50 ct. or a half carat. The modern metric carat equals 0.2 grams. The larger the diamond, the more rare the become and as such, the higher the price.
The weight combined with the cut, color and clarity is what the price of a diamond is based upon. Supply and demand play a big part as well. If a certain shape is hot, the price goes up.
Remember, this is purely for your education. Don't let anyone tell you what you like or don't like. Ultimately, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Pick the diamond that you like. Pick the one that speaks to you.
