Happy Halloween! What are you doing today to have some fun? Just because we’re adults, that doesn’t mean we have to make life all about work and seriousness. Play (having fun) can benefit your relationships, job, creativity and mood! So carve a pumpkin, jump in those leaves you just raked, walk your dog in a costume (both of you!) we bet you'll feel less stress and maybe even enjoy a laugh or two.
Check out the Halloween handiwork that was creatively carved by residents and staff at Rose Hill. We think they are ALL very BOO-ti-ful!

The residents recently enjoyed a relaxing acrylic pour painting activity at Rose Hill. Studies show that finding an emotional release like painting allows a person's mind to relax and let go of problems that contribute to stress. When people create something beautiful through painting, they stimulate the creative mind while relieving mental strain.

Many people with schizoaffective disorder are often incorrectly diagnosed at first with bipolar disorder or schizophrenia. Because schizoaffective disorder is less well-studied than the other two conditions, many interventions are borrowed from their treatment approaches. One of the best things that you can do for yourself when you have a mental illness is to create yourself a toolbox for when you are having a rough time. The toolbox is essential to maintaining good mental health even when depression is trying to suck you in and bring you down. Ten tools that are most commonly used to stay well and help relieve symptoms: 1.Talk to a friend. Many people find this to be really helpful 2.Talk to a health care professional 3.Peer counseling or exchange listening 4.Focusing exercises 5.Relaxation and stress reduction exercises 6.Guided imagery 7.Journaling (writing in a notebook) 8.Creative affirming activities 9.Exercise 10.Diet considerations It is best if most of the ideas are free or low-cost so that you don’t have to depend on the money when you are feeling at your lowest. Pick ones that you like and write them down. It's recommended to have at least twenty or more ideas so that there is at least one thing you can feel comfortable picking when your mood has you really low.
