World Heart Day 2020: Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the number one cause of death worldwide, according to WHO (World Health Organization). It is estimated that one person dies from cardiovascular disease every 37 seconds in America and 17.9 million people die globally every year. This number is greater than that of deaths from HIV, malaria, and cancer.
Therefore, the advancements to diagnose and treat these conditions are critical. With the growing number of cases of CVD, our Cath Lab team of doctors and nurses wanted to share our cardiac cath lab grand opening video!!

National Check Your Meds Day, observed every October 21 and sponsored by the National Community Pharmacists Association, prompts consumers to bring their prescriptions to their local pharmacists for review. Pharmacists can remove any prescriptions that have expired, and update prescriptions as necessary.
October 20: World Osteoporosis Day: If you have weak bones, you need to take extra steps to prevent falls, including doing exercises to improve your strength and balance, having your eyes checked, and making your home safer.

Perioperative Nurse Week, also known as Operating Room Nurse Week, is observed on November 8th through November 14th.

Possibly the proudest I’ve ever been to vote in an election. Thanks to my amazing sister and the incredibly helpful staff at Roxborough Memorial Hospital, I was able to vote today with an emergency absentee ballot. Kristin served as my authorized voting representative and brought the ballot to me in the hospital and then delivered it to the county election office here in my neighborhood. Yes, I’m in the hospital and have been here since Sunday morning, but I’m doing much better now and will be getting released tomorrow morning!
November 1st– 7th is National Patient Transport Week. During this annual Patient Transport Week, Roxborough Memorial Hospital honors the people who make the wheels go around in our hospital.

Today, which would be Elizabeth Blackwell, MD's 200th birthday, we celebrate National Women Physician's Day. Dr. Blackwell was the first women to receive a medical degree in the United States and founded the New York Infirmary for Indigent Women and Children. She and her sister, also a physician, helped train nurses during the Civil War. Today we honor Dr. Blackwell and the millions of women who have worked and continue to work toward advancing the science and art of medicine. #womendocsinspire #nwpd

Did you know? The risk of a heart attack during snow shoveling may increase and the combination of colder temperatures, and physical exertion increases the workload on the heart. People who are outdoors in cold weather should avoid sudden exertion, like lifting a heavy shovel full of snow.
If you have sudden chest pain, shortness of breath, discomfort in other areas of the upper body, other signs may include breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness, call 911 immediately.
