A SHORT STORY ABOUT ME
Ruben S. Ojeda Architect’s innovative treatment of light and space has received widespread recognition, and many of his projects have been featured in prominent local, national and international publications.
“There are many ingredients crucial to a successful project. I begin with the basic needs of my client. I then consider the site, the materials, the budget and the program. By assimilating these vital elements, I develop a design that will bring forth the spirit of a structure and thus reveal its personality and its life.”
Ojeda believes the success of a building is greatly affected by the first and last moments of visual contact. People “read” a space, and their senses form an immediate impression. Consequently, the transition from the outside to the inside plays an integral part in creating the drama of the total architectural experience.
“In residential spaces, I focus primarily on the needs of the owner. In a commercial space, however, I not only consider how the structure will harmonize with the scale and texture of the community, but I must also speculate on how the several, or possibly hundreds of users can best work or function within the space. My goal is to allow my clients to delight in where they sit or stand and in what they see. This participation is very much a part of my creative process. Architecture not only exposes the nature of the structure, but also that of the client, the user, the visitor and ultimately – the architect.”
